I was bush hogging today and hit a low stump I forgot was in the field. I sheared the driveline shear bolt. The driveline safety shield prevents easy access to the shear bolt. Look at the pictures and see if you can help me figure out how to get to the shear bolt area to put in a new one.

The first pic is of the rear area of the driveline shield. I have a close-up of a white tab that I think releases the large shield part that covers the universal joint area of the driveline. There are 4 of the tabs. I did a little playing around with the tabs, but I didn't want to get too aggressive with them not knowing for sure that they are what I think they are. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Referring to pic number two: I believe the large hole on the far left in your photo is meant to allow replacing the shear bolt without removing the safety shield.....by simply rotating the cover directly above the shear bolt and driving it out and replacing. H

HOWEVER.....I'm sure the 4 tabs you are referring to will release the safety shield from the inner plastic bushing to allow better access than thru the hole (as told above). I think in your case the larger "bell" will rotate a few degrees and release from the bearing (with the tabs) through the larger hole(s) immediately to the left of the tabs....but I am uncertain how to do the "release" function.

Foggy, I think purpose of the hole your refer to is to allow access to the grease fitting in the universal joint. However, I suspect you are correct about rotating the bell a few degrees in order to allow the tabs to slip through the larger holes and thus slide forward on the safety shield tube. Now I just need to know how free up the bell from the tabs to allow it to release.
