I'm standing here looking at my finish mower and brush cutter. I'm thinking instead of having to free the shaft up every year, why not just slide it apart when your done with it.

Or you could keep a nice coat of grease on it like most. That shaft looks pretty dry.

I beat it out about 2 months ago. It had been sitting for 4 years. With some other posts on here about frozen shafts, I was thinking it mite be a way for some of us that don't use them often. When you unhook slide the shaft apart and store it in the tph hook up. Next time you use it it already free and you can grease it as you put back together.

I bought a used finish mower last year and never used it. I got the shaft apart, now all I have to do is grease it and slide it in. I just finished putting new tires on it and getting ready to try it out. One other thing I was thinking about. I bought it for a smaller tractor. It's a 5' and the new tractor is 67" with a cat 2 hitch. Can I offset it to the right side of the tractor by reworking the hitch. And maybe set it back 6". When I pick it up if I'm not careful it hits the tires. I will post a pic from my app. It's easier.

I only have a $100 in it so don't say replace it.

I used to grease pto shafts but I don't anymore. It's just to hard to get them apart when the grease is dried out and caked with dust. Everytime I install a shaft it get's a good shot of WD40 and that's good enough.

You could try sliding the wheel brackets in a bit more for more clearance. Also shortening the top link would help. How much clearance is there when you back up with the mower on the ground? Do the mower tires touch the tractor tires then?

It looks like the easiest way to offset and move the mower back would be to lengthen and offset the lift brackets than the bottom 3ph arms hook onto.

I grease my pto shafts up real good, wrap them in a big towel and store them high & dry in my storage shed. Never had a moments problem with either.

Pat's easy change or a quick hitch would move the implements back a couple of inches. This would potentially provide the clearance you need and make connections easier also.

I would rework those gauge wheels so they don't stick out for far in front. I have not idea why the mfg put them that far to the front, all you need is enough to clear the mower deck. You may get enough clearance by just sliding them back till they bend meets the slide in portion

I don't have a problem either when they are stored. It's when I use them that they get all full of dust. :)

I slid the arms back and that helped a lot when I pick it up. How far can I off set it to the right before affect the drive shaft. I was thinking set it on the floor UN hitched and see how far I can slide it til the shaft hits the frame. I'm only doing this so I can mow closer to the fence lines.

If you have your tire interference problem fixed then you might also be able to get away with just adjusting your sway bars on your three point hitch to offset it to one side. The pto angles aren't a great issue at slower pto speeds. It's not ideal but it's workable.

I got everything adjusted. I pushed to the right a little with the side links. I mowed about 45 mins until the belt broke. Sent the wife to go get a new one. It ought to be fun putting it on without a diagram. The guy I got it from said he had put a new one on.
