The other thing that you should be aware of and is a growing issue in our area is Arsenic. Due to the volcanic nature of the area, the water is loaded with it and metals. If you know of company that does water testing, they may be able to tell you if the area is prone to these issues.

Yeah...I read about that somewhere on the state's water page. I'll definately have it tested before I try to drink it.

I did come across a hand dug shallow well from about 100 years ago on some nearby property I looked at. I don't know anything about it, other than it's shallow, and there was water at the bottom. The realtor didn't know anything about it but said the water is not suitable for drinking....(although I'm sure it was when they dug it!)

Many if not all places in the Pac NW have legal water rights requirements. You may be putting yourself at risk.

Yeah, what happens in my backyard, stays in my backyard. I don't think I will be drawing enough water to piss anybody off. I have only read the water rights briefly but single family wells are pretty much ok as long as you've got the permit. No way I'm paying the city for that. I don't care what the state says, if there's water under my dirt, it's mine.

Didn't you mention that you have a pond? Where does it get its water?....

Ahh...it says it right there. An "exempt" well does not require water rights, "exempt" being for drinking or watering of less than 5,000 gallons per day. I only wish I could find that much!
