Drove the new Ford F150 2.7 Ecoboost

I have a 2012 F150 4 x 4 with the 3.5L ecoboost engine. I get 14 mpg commuting to work in stop and go traffic and about 19 on the highway. I do have a heavy foot though. The truck is great for cargo - I put 1300-1400lbs of hay in the back and it handles great and still accelerates well. One of my biggest concerns with an aluminum body is the cost of body shop repairs. Ford claims it is more ding resistent than steel and that they are giving special training to their techs so they can work with it. The national news had a story the other night showing the first trucks rolling off the dearborn plant assembly line. Ford had to retool the entire plant and evidently has dumped alot of money into this "gamble".

No thanks...........I googled Ecoboost before I bought and saw that correct name should be Ecobust..
As for the rest funny I saw in that post the terms " pre production" and destroyed after use......that is not joe average testing, that is Ford approaching their valued suppliers to try out their preproduction model....and if it was not then I guess we just saw further exaggeration from a truck fleet owner who makes his wages off of Ford.

Boy, you Canadians double talk. You just said the Internet can't be trusted but you sure did when you bought whatever truck you have. Too funny.

I'm curious about the "pre-production model that will be destroyed" comment. Could that mean that the computer was rigged to dump in more fuel, change the timing and add boost or is it just that the final production models will have some changes that make the pre-production ones orphans without a warranty.

The former would get you great press and rave reviews, the latter is a liability issue.

Just sayin'

My father actually asked the question to the factory rep. "What will happen to these trucks after they make their rounds"?

His reply was these are pre production test vehicles. They will be returned to Ford and evaluated then destroyed.

It made the evening news last night that yesterday was the 1st day of production for the new F150's.

You mean like they did with the current EcoBoost. EPA numbers that very few have even come close to.

I know, I own one! 14.5 mixed driving, 7 to 9 towing. Otherwise a good truck.

How can there be such a difference in millage? My truck, a 2012 FX4 3.73 gears gets low 18's even tank and 14 towing 5,000# and 9 towing 10,000 plus pounds.

Verified both hand calculated and trip computer. Never more than .2 mpg off.

The mpgs differences are likely how many hills you have, and also how much you idle/cool down, if at all.

I live at 3,500 MSL so that could be part of it and I too hand calculate. I have the HD payload package with LT tires. They are not as efficient as the car tires on most Eco's.

I don't believe that the window sticker considers anything but the best possible conditions.

Mine also has the LT tires, Goodyear Wranglers.

I live at 800'. The Turbos should "Normalize" the engine so altitude won't make more difference on a turbo motor.

So I work for Ford or its suppliers? I fly and operate a corporate flight department that is in the construction business, primarily building cell phone towers. Nothing to do with Ford. We have 300 plus company vehicles. 1/2 tons are 80% GM, 20% Ford. 3/4 ton all GM. Dually upto 550 size all Ford except 1 Dodge.

We were invited because we are good customers. I have personally bought 10 vehicles from this dealer, last was a 2013 Edge Sport. My father, uncle, and BIL have bought another two dozen or better.

Us Ford owners have no reason to "make up stories", as you say. Sales numbers prove what we already know. Pretty simple stuff.

Earlier this year Chris you stated "
I have 13.5 years of service as the corporate pilot for a auto parts supplier making glass and my father has 40 plus years as VP of a supplier making radiator and gas caps and fuel components.

Chris

end of quote and during numerous tirades against GM you have stated your being burn't as a supplier by GM.......I added two plus two . Your bias is flaggrant . I just tihnk it should be fair that everyone keeps that in mind because opinions paid for should be separated from opinions of "joe average"
