Ducktail trailer???

Maybe he's looking at it when the ramps are up at about 45 degrees? That's the only way I can picture a trailer looking like a duck tail.

I saw an add for a trailer with a penile hitch.... I'm hoping it was a pintle hitch.. otherwise I think the trailer would be a tad cumbersome

if you considering putting a dovetail on to an existing flat trailer.... what would be the min ground clearance would you maintain in the rear? 18" ?

Depends on the sidewalk kerb height in your state... and the overhang behind the axle.
We usually took 12" under the rear bumper, with the air suspension at ride height.

Just make sure that when loaded, the truck suspension drops as much as the trailers: If not, it hangs down and the ground clearance decrease is quite more than the height drop at the axles....

I have been looking at trailers and can use some education from the experts. I was thinking that a ducktail, I mean DOVETAIL would hinder the usefull length of the trailer. Am I off base? I am thinking my tractor should be totally on the flat deck and should not be on the tail at all. Therefor I would want/need a longer trailer if it was a ducktail, darn it, I mean dovetail.

I've heard them called "beavertail" but I think they all mean the same thing. The end of the trailer cants down at an angle making loading equipment easier and the ramp angle shallower and yes, it does limit the usable length of the trailer somewhat.

Plenty of dovetail trailers out there being used to haul tractors! The big advantage with a dovetail is that helps in loading/unloading equipment that is low slung, ie doesn't have much ground clearance. I don't necessarily agree that the whole tractor and implement have to be resting on a flat part of the trailer. As long as everything is dogged down really good, it should do just fine on a dovetail trailer but that's jmho.

I also see things using the dovetail space as deck space.. as long as you tie the ramps and secure the laod and the weight ballance is correct...

I'd like to find one of those luminam trailers. The one I have now is made of unobtainium. Oh well, when my boy went to college and we got his 1st E-Mail, I told my wife we sure wasted our money on the spell checker for his computer.
