- JD318, Power-Trac PT425 with scuffed-up green paint.
Hi guys -
This weekend, my neighbor mentioned that they were not looking forward to moving 34 yards of mulch. I mentioned that I have two tractors, one JD318 with a Johnny Bucket, and a PT425 with a 10 cu ft. bucket. He and his wife (good friends of ours) were really appreciative, and yesterday evening we moved all 34 yards with ease. It was fun watching Steve put the JD318 through it's paces while I did a lot of the heavy lifting and moving with the PT, and at the end of the evening, with the mulch all nicely spread (it only took about 3.5 hours) the assembled group all commented on how well the two tractors worked, and they were especially intrigued by the PT. There are several portions of his property where the PT could simply bend in the middle and make a U-turn, where any other tractor would have to make multiple passes.
There was even one point where the JD was stuck (2WD does have some limitations) and I needed to give it a nudge with the PT to get it going again. (I came up at approximately a right angle, let the two buckets touch, and then 'turned' the PT and nudged him into the clear. You should have seen Steve's face when I did that - the turning power of the PT is tremendous) The PT never lost traction, never found a hill or slope it couldn't handle, and ended up doing all the really heavy grunt work. It was a terrific way to help a neighbor, and have something accomplished that was fun to do.
Thank you for all your input, guys. For now, the little JD is earning its keep, and so is my 425.
