hi everyone, my wife was using the tractor for about 2 hours and was moving mulch from one part of our yard to where she was dumping it. after her last dump she tried to back up and she couldn't. she then tried to go forward and it didnt move forward. she called me over and i tried to get the tractor to move. i can get the bucket to go up and down and tilt up down and i can twist the tractor left to right but cant get it to move forward or reverse. i put the bucket down to lift the front wheels off the ground. when i stepped on the forward tredle the front left wheel turned but the front right did not and neither did the rear wheels move. when i stepped on the reverse tredle neither of the front wheels turned at all. thinking i may have a bad right front wheel motor i swapped it out but still same thing. any suggestions? thanks in advance for any help and suggestions

Sorry for your troubles.

When you step on the directional pedals, does the engine bog down at all, or just maintain the same tone?

engine seems to sound the same. no difference in tone. thanks

Well, that kind of lessons the chances of it being brakes locked or wheel motor frozen up. That would change the engine tone or even kill the engine when the directional pedals are stepped on.

Could be a stuck open relief valve maybe? Nothing sounding odd in the engine at all?

I'm not that familiar with a 1430. Is the treadle pedal connected to a valve that has hoses going back to the pump, or is it a cable that goes back to the pump?

If it's hydraulic treadle, something could be wrong with the valve, or the section of the pump that those hoses actuate to change direction.

If it's a cable, it may have come loose.

Is there a bolt or pin holding the treadle pedal to the pivot that could be loose?

That's about all I can come up with.

I'm sure Terry at PT will have some suggestions, but that's not until Monday.

As for being able to turn the unit left and right, and the FEL working properly, that should be expected as those are separate pump.

I just thought also that maybe your directional pump isn't spinning well. Maybe the lovejoy between the motor and pump is loose? But if all of your pumps are on the same end of the engine, and the PTO/FEL/STEERING pumps are piggybacked off the directional pump, then you already know the lovejoy is connected properly, as it spins those pumps through the directional pump if they're piggybacked.

The tram pump has a way to put the drive in a type a neutral (so you can roll it with a disable engine), you might want to look in your manual and check that.

I don't know how that works on the 1430 and newer 425s. On my 2002 425 I have to remove two port caps and connect a hose between them to roll the machine.

Is there a valve on the newer pumps instead of the ports that I mentioned above?

Good suggestions from others above. FWIW: My 1445 needs a bypass hose as well; there is no neutral lever/switch on my pump.

The symptoms sound to me more like a brake issue or a variable displacement pump problem, either in in the control circuit or the charge pump.

You checked for mulch under the pedals, right? (BTDT myself) Is the parking brake releasing ok at each wheel?

How many hours do you have on your 1430?

Have you checked for bubbles or foam in the hydraulic tank, and confirmed that there is enough oil in the tank? Is there any oil on the outside of the hydraulic filter? If the brakes are ok, I would be tempted to do a preemptive hydraulic filter change, and ensure that the replacement filter is tightly.

All the best,

Peter

Does the 1430 have the brake tender?

Not as far as I know. I think that the brake tender is only on the 1460, and slope mowers as far as I know.

You can see two cables coming off the brake lever in this PT photo.
