dumb question about HST

..Is the PTO driven by pump or by gears? I would have guessed that even on HST tractors, the PTO was still gear driven. No?

On a little machine like my TYM T224, if i'm reading the parts diagram correctly, there's a secondary output shaft on the hydrostat that sends direct power to the PTO and hydraulic pump regardless of the output speed and direction the hydrostat is running it.

That’s how all my kubotas have worked too.

PTO will have mechanical clutch or hydraulic operated clutch but is mechanically connected to the engine.
