I wounder about the range of motion available in a gooseneck hitch coupler.

What are the Dimensions of the Gooseneck Coupler Head # 291300 | etrailer.com

Bruce

look back at the video ya posted in another thread. between 2 to 3 minutes
Leisinger USA - YouTube

there is a physical cut out on one side.

plz ignore my petty attempts, using autodesk...

some place in the video, it is like 1 maybe 2 seconds long, of removing a plastic piece, that fits up inside, that i assume the "ball" itself rests on.

you might try contacting a local CNC / metal fabrication place. they may have a 3way-joint already on file. that they can load up, toss a chunk a metal into there machines, and set back and watch.

a shop / company, geared to customizing vehicles for folks, might be able to give ya a tip of were to hunt down some metal fabrication place.

One reason I am following this thread so closely:

In the late 1950's we had on the farm a rolling chassis from a 1936 Plymouth. My plan was to make a light duty 3-way dump trailer on it. I had never seen or heard of a 3-way trailer then, so I couldn't copy a design. Here is the plan.

On top of the chassis was to be a dump-bed-sized rectangular subframe, with 4 hinges, two on each side between the subframe and chassis, pins pointing front to rear. When the two pins on either side were removed, the subframe would be able to tilt to the other side for dumping. The dump box, with tailgates on 3 sides, was mounted to this subframe as described below.

For rear dumping, there were to be 2 rear hinges like a regular dump truck or trailer. But these hinges were on the rear of the dump box and the rear of the subframe, instead of on the chassis. There would be a latch between the front of the dump box and the subframe.

The hydraulic cylinder bottom end was to be on the chassis and the top end attached to the dump box.

1. Start with everything latched and pinned
2. To side dump left, pull right pins and activate cylinder, or
3. To side dump right, pull left pins and activate cylinder, or
4. To rear dump, unlatch dump box from subframe and activate cylinder

I never did get the hydraulic cylinder worked out, and went on to other projects. I need that trailer now. :)

BRUCE...

I just got a LOT of the answers and I found parts that are not
real expensive! (but...in Belgium, read on)

OK, I have not calculated freight yet from Belgium and
I hope to get another price from the UK for the Boyriven
3- way tipping ball and sockets. They are $194.xx
a set! Plus shipping. Maybe if we buy 2 sets they will drop
the price? Anyone else want a set??? I would be happy to
do all the deeds, I live 30 minutes from LONG BEACH
and LOS ANGELES Freight terminals.

FWIW I have over 1000 EBAY reveiws and I have never
been under 100% their. My business is public, I am fixed
and live at the address the Contractors State License
Board has for me. You can pay me w/ a Credit Card
as well...It is all good here. THE ONLY REASON YOU CAN
CANCEL IS IF I DO NOT PUT IT IN THE MAIL TO YOU!
and I will... w/ proof. No disappointments here.

These parts ROCK!

The next thing "I" am looking at is the cylinder and cradle
parts. KRAMP seems to have the best stuff for "me".

I went to KRAMP but currently they are playing hardball
w/ me. They have a 1000EUR minimun...which today is a
$1295.58 exchange rate. Then "I" have to figure out how
to ship it. The price for a cylinder and a cradle and 2
cradle clamps and a 1/2" x Cylinder M.I.P. connector is;

KRAMP PRODUCTS (see link in a past post in this thread)
TC3050 at 245,74 EUR/EA = $318.38
TC908 at 2,97 EUR/EA = $ 3.85
TC9045 at 10,73 EUR/EA = $ 13.91
TC93124 at 77,27 EUR/EA = $100.11
+_________________________________________________
.....................................................................$436.25 Plus Shipping

That means I need two more guys to go in w/ me (Errrrrrrr)

The Boyriven ball and socket folks are not the problem, it is the
folks at KRAMP they are penalizing me for being in the USA. This
blows, heck I DESPISE much of the foreign policy this government
forces on others...

For alls I know shipping is ridiculous...I will find out.

Bruce do you want a set of the Boyriven Balls and Sockets?
Or Bruce you can contact them yourself too...
Bruce look at the KRAMP Cylinder I picked...look at the
parts I picked...you may want a diferent cylinder is all, OK!

Crap, KRAMP is Cramping my style!

I would do this I thunk! It is like 600 bucks for all 4 corners
and the cylinder w/ gyro cradle! THAT isn't too bad!
(Plus shipping)

this DEFINATELY needs to be looked into, (Besides, when
have I ever stuck to the KISS medhodilogy :)

Hmmmmm, so w/ a 3 way tipper, the stroke will be longer
tilting from front to back, as oppsosed to side to side right? Well
I see KRAMP has some parts that might be considered...There is
an END OF STROKE VALVE
that maybe could work on the short side so you never can
extended it too far and they have a STROKE LIMITER.

I have 6 hairs left again! HA!

There was a post earlier about starving the transmission of hydraulic oil. If you use a double acting cylinder that will reduce the problem since you'll be returning oil to the resivoir while you're extending the cylinder. I realize you only need a single acting cylinder for this application, but the double acting essentially acts as an additional oil resiviour.
