Anyone else have problems with the rear D rings on a dump trailer.

My last two loads with the dump bed all the way up refused to dump because the load was hung up on the two rear D rings.
I couldn't move the obstruction as it was too wedged in and even if I did I would be under an avanlach of debris if I did break it loose.

I had to lower the load clear the jammed piece being stopped by the D- rings and re dump the load.
The line of other people behind me were not happy.

Any solutions besides cutting them out? I do like them there when I move equipment in the dump trailer.
Putting in recessed D-rings would be a pain but if that's all there is?

I'm thinking of fabricating some sort of a metal ramp so when the loads hits the D-ring it might defelct over the ring?

Any ideas would help.

A buddy had them mounted to the side walls up about 6-8". Not Ideal for a major tie down (putting that load on the walls) but he's mostly tying down building materials or other light loads. He has the fold down sides.

Replace them with this style.

I was wanting to weld some D-rings in my dump truck bed. I might re think that idea.

That's simple. My D-rings are similar except instead of oriented North/south like yours, it's NE/SW. So far, I have broken the stubborn loads loose by going in reverse then braking hard, or accelerating forward hard from a dead stop.

I used to have that problem. But not since I ran chain around three sides of the dump trailer. I put the chain in place so I could easily tie stuff down anywhere. But as a side benefit the chain guides the crud up and over the D ring.

If you don't NEED D-rings don't get them if you only need a dump trailer but I use mine to haul my Kubota 4060 in it so I get two uses out of it.

I should致e snapped a picture if the dump all the way up and the entire load being help up by one 2"x4" on that darn D-Ring. It happened once before but this time it cause a ruckus at the dump because I had to lowed the dump and then adjust the load and even then it almost hung up again.

I've had it happen with brush and limbs before but not that often.

This last time I swore never again will I load this unless I have a solution. Even the recessed D rings still have a lip and some bolts to catch unless I weld a bead then grind it all smooth.

I'm going to see If I can get a machine shop to duplicate what the you tube guy did, might make mine a longer smoother angle just in case.

I see PJ trailers put their rings on the side and I'm thinking that will cause the same issues with wood, lumber etc sliding down the dump.

I was going to use E-track on the floor but don't think that is strong enough to tie down a tractor.

When you start to load the trailer watch where you put debris on and around the rear deck rings. I’ve had this issue but never had a load get stuck with the dump all the way up. If you back up and hit the brakes it will usually come right out. Gravity is good

The things that jammed me up were loaded against the front of the trailer.
I was a small solid wood window planter that found it's way to the D - ring
before the large load of lumber. It was only about 24" x 6" x 6" but it hit that ring and locked in perfectly.

Also in my case the backing up thing didn't work. It was Jammed with a few hundred pounds of
wood above the jammed D - ring.

The jam held so tight with the weight coming down it worked like wedge and made the entire load a solid mas.

The dump traffic guy tried to kick the jam out and after a couple hard kicks nothing. On later thought
I realized had he removed the jam he would have been in direct line of an avalanche of several hundred pounds of
lumber with no where to go.

The one time it did it with the brush and logs I literally was able to pull forward enough to get momentum
and slam on the brakes then reverse fast and hit the brakes and the load never budged. Again on that brush load
I had to lower and reset.

I thought I could put up with it happeneing every now and again, but this last time was the straw that broke the camels back.

So once you no longer have things like this happening, what will you do for the rest of day because you finished early?:D

I did the "math" the other day. I currently won't live long enough to finish the projects I have racked up and that's not inluding the three more projects to do before you get to each project, or the three projects that are needed because of any one project.
Fix one thing break two things. Fix those two things, and while you're doing those you find more that you bargained for or you decide
" while I'm doing this I might as well "upgrade".

At least this didn’t happen to you. I’ve also dumped the tailgate off my little dump truck and it’s too heavy to put on by myself. IMG_2087.JPG

That's EXACTLY what happened my entire load was hanging in the dump trailer going nowhere.

OK here's my mock up. Am I on the right track or do you see any problems. Going for a "ramp" so the debris fly's OVER the D-rings. My D-rings are East to West not North to South or side to side not front to back
5.5" x 6" x 1"

Depend's on how thick the ramp material is AND greatest force ever expected to be put on D-ring. In pic, ring is pushed toward rear and ramp is against front of ring. Tiedowns will pull ring foward against ramp and enough pressure will damage ramp. No big deal but you strick me as not wanting another problem.
