KTM, these folks make make a variety of smaller dump trailers for both off and on road use: Pronovost- Dump trailers - Off-road service
I have the very small P-503, which is only 5' long, but still comes with dual wheel "walking" axles. It's rated at 3,000# GVW. The next model up is approximately 4' x. 8'. I don't know what the 4' x 8' model costs, but you can find the 503 on e-bay for about $1,500.
All metal dump trailers are great for ease of use, strength and longevity. I have to move alot of dirt, rocks, aggregate, etc., and I have some significant space limitations, so a factory designed and built compact unit was the best option for me, even after factoring in the additional cost. If all you plan to do is haul firewood though, a build-it-yourself or kit trailer that utillizes wood components to some degree ought to work rather effectively.
