I have a battery powered dump trailer lift which is work fine, but I am tired of buying new batteries for it and I am not using it behind the pick up anymore. So I would like to power the lift from my JD 5425. So I would need to run some cable from the front of the tractor to the rear, mount a quick disconnect on the back of the tractor, and then make the connection to the trailer power life motor. So wondering how big a cable should be used for something like this? Or any other ideas that you may have to make this a more simple conversion,
Thanks,
Craig

How often are you planning on dumping a load when used behind your JD? I would be concerned with amp draw overloading the alternator or charging system if cycled to often.

I would use heavy battery cable since some of those DC units pull 200+ amps when under load.

You will be much better by using hydraulics instead.

Either ditch the hydraulic power pack entirely and just run a hose from the cylinder to one of the tractor remotes or if you want to keep the power pack, get a 3 way hydraulic valve so you can select which method to power the dump trailer, be it the tractor or the power pack.

Using the tractor hydraulics will make it operate much faster.

You can add a 7-way connector to you tractor. I would keep a battery on the trailer though to take up some of the power load though..

Can always just add a solar charger to the trailer to keep the battery full.

Thanks, guys. Some good ideas there. I knew there must be a better way.
Appreciate it. I will give one of these ideas a try. Craig
