b3200hst
Was looking to see if anyone here has experience using dump trailers with CUTs. I'm picking up a 6x10 dump weighing in at 2500# and would like to pull it sometimes with the tractor rather than hauling the truck around to pick it up.

Loaded it would be over the max GVWR, but I'd be pulling on level ground for about 1000ft. Wouldn't exceed max drawbar, only max tow. I was thinking I could just drop the HST down and it would be fine.

Thoughts?

That would be fine for me! Low range will spin the tires and still leave you safe for acceleration but if you are baking going down a hill I hope you start out in 4 wheel drive!

Art- is "baking" going down a hill same as "cooking"? Sorry, couldn't resist.

I used a 5ton dump behind my B3300su with loaded tires all the time. Never felt unstable or out of control.

That's good to know. The Manual for my L3010 says 1100 lbs max draw bar and 3300 lbs max trailer. I always thought that was a little restrictive and it has actually stopped me from getting a trailer because keeping in those parameters would not get me what I need.

I know I've had in excess of 5ton behind my MX4800. I'm sure there are many on here who would say that was criminal but it has alway felt safe.

That's perfect. Did you ever have issues dumping it? I have loaded R3's, so the rear end is pretty heavy.

I've pulled 3 tons of rock on a trailer behind my L3200, and it did fine. Just be careful on hills and use 4x4 when braking is critical.

I have a 5X10 dump trailer and it has 20 inch high sides on it. I can fill it level full with sand and pull it fine with my 3301. It will push you if you try to stop fast. My ground is level also. On dumping I have no problems and I hve R4 tires loaded

No. My hitch is now attached to a ballast box so that keeps things down. On my B3300su I just used a 3pth trailer mover like you get a TSC. That would occasionally flip the 3pth up towards the end of a dump (especially with something sticky like wet dirt). But by then there's not much weight in the trailer so it's not much of a jolt.
