Dump Trailer with b3200?

   / Dump Trailer with b3200? #21
On the B3300su I kept ledge-pack to 2yards and loam to 3yards. With the MX4800 it's 3 and 4+ yards respectively.
If I'm dumping onto the downhill (driving uphill) I drop the 3pth to the ground before dumping. If the hitch is flipping up with enough force to damage the lift cylinder or significantly lighten the rear end then I would assume the trailer was loaded way to tail heavy or the operator did something silly like backing up while dumping.
Just my experience with HST machines.

Gordon, I might have a different opinion on using the 3pth instead of the drawbar on a geared tractor. But as far as having the ability to safetly maneuver and stop the load... My opinion is that you'd be fine even with 4 yards of gravel on already cut roads/trails. Clearly the drawbar has a greater safety margin than the the 3pth but sacrifices A LOT of convenience (without much more risk to an experienced operator). Of coarse all is just my opinion with my experience. Done a fair amount of work with geared tractors but never pulled a non-wagon trailer that I can remember.

Leejohn makes two good points. When backing up it's possible to bind the drawbar and get yourself into a "jackknife" situation. When this happens, if you keep backing up your inside rear wheel will start lifting and you're on your way to rolling over. Don't ask how I know. As for the 3pt lifting, that can create a whole other set of complications. This happened to me with a load of wood, going uphill, the load shifted aft and the tail of the trailer dug in. The result was a loss of traction that took some futzing with to get the load back in front of the trailer axle. You can limit this tendency by securing the 3pt hitch with a chain. Just make sure you make a good, secure connection between the toplink and the drawbar:

I like the idea in the picture. I took it out yesterday with a lighter load and had no issues. 4wd and medium. On dump, it put some upward pressure on the 3pt, but didn't lift it. I use one of these. Heavy Duty 3 Point 2" Receiver Trailer Hitch Category 1TRACTOR Tow Drawbar Pull | eBay

I'm now thinking of flipping it around so I can chain the D-ring to the drawbar once the trailer is hooked up. If I can keep the 3pt down, the tractor weighs enough to dump a whole load.

Thanks again for the input.
