Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me, is there enough oil in the reservoir on a Kubota L3800 to run a dump trailer with a single acting piston 3x24" stroke? Any input on your experience with this would be helpful. Thank you

A few things.. if you don't get it to the level where it might starve the pump it would be bad, but short of that, usually when your dumping, your not driving.
If your cyl on the trlr is actually double acting with a vent in the "other end", you could make it double acting with a return hose and the cyl. would become a mini reservoir with the returning fluid going back to the tractor.
I did this on a trlr. with some qc couplers. I could switch back and forth from the tractor to the elec pump for use with the truck.

I think the piston should use about 3qts of oil to extend but then I would be pulling the tractor forward with the trailer body up.

With a little "plumbing", you can find out:D I would guess that 3 quarts would not put you in any danger to pull up a few feet. What does your hytrans take (gals) to change?

6.2 gal trailer has one hose i could make it double acting

Is the on-board pump on the trailer not working?

no pump just one wet line

I bet that 3x24 piston doesn't have much more displacement than the 3pt lift cylinder. (That's the only other single acting piston on your tractor right?) And the system certainly deal with that "lost" fluid.
Bottom line: I think Rusty is correct and it won't miss those 3qts.

Thanks cylinder calculator shows 0.7343 gal = 2.9 quarts should work dont want to burn out pump

I lost 4-5 gallons with a blown cooler line (hst) and was able to drive back to the house to make repairs. You should be fine with a few quarts missing.

I have this issue with a sizeable single acting hoist. It is so close that whether the pump goes into cavitation or not, depends on the position of the loader and 3PH. Not a good arrangement.

I'm running a 4" x 24" on our 4' x 8' Country Mfg. dump cart powered off the rear remotes on our B2910.

No problems here, so I'm guessing you'd be ok.

I'm running a double acting 4x48 off the remotes of mine without problem. I wouldn't be the least bit worried about 3 quarts. If you are concerned, do the math on how much fluid the loader uses to be at max height with the bucket dumped compared to on the ground with the bucket curled all the way back. I'm sure that would be a similar number.

With a double acting cylinder you only have to make up the volume occupied by the rod. With a single acting cylinder, you also need to make up the volume of the whole cylinder.
Our B7500 has issues running the cylinder on the dump wagon (single acting 5 or 6x30ish?) but the L3830 has no problems with it.

Yes, that's why I made the loader reference. With the loader compared to his dump wagon there are 4 cylinders vs the one. Accounting for a 1.5" rod, 4 DA cylinders would have the same fluid displacement of one 3" SA cyl on the base end for a given stroke length.

I will make it a double acting piston then it will use about 1 qt of oil to be on the safe side a hose is cheaper than a new pump

Peter 315 I believe you are doing the right thing. And I am sure your math is correct given the price of a pump.
