That brings up an interesting thought. How much cheaper is gravel or crusher run if you pick it up yourself?

In my are its not. I can get any grade delivered for $14.50 a ton plus a $75 haul bill. They can haul 25 tons at a time so that works out to $17.50 a ton.

If I drive to the quarry its still $14.50 per ton. I could haul 5 tons in my uncles dump trailer. Lets say I use 3 to 4 gallons of fuel or about $10 worth it works out to $16.50 per ton. Yes that's $1 cheaper per ton but now I have wear and tear on my truck, a case of Coors Light for my Uncle for use of his trailer, plus a good hour of my time for each load lost. So for $25 more - the case of beer @ $15 I am only $10 ahead and have lost 5 hours I could be spending with the family or doing something else around the house.

Take into account the ware and tear on equipment and its not a winning proposition in my area.

I second the "larger is better" theme for Dump trailer... actually, more payload is better because it is sooooooo easy to get to max payload with road base, other earth materials. This does not necessarily mean you need high sides, since the earth material is soooo heavy. High sides are needed if you wish to move lots of lighter material, such as brush. Dual wheels, dual axles is a good idea.... for best flotation on poor ground, even if not loaded to the max.

You know your property... sounds like to me that a bumper pull is the right answer for you.

I have 2 of these 2008 DooLittle dump trailers left and I will be selling them for $2,999
You will get benifits of being able to run them on the road and yet they are small enought to get around your yard behind a tractor.
They have their own hydraulics.
They are 6x8 3,500 lbs with brakes

That looks like a good deal and would be a great to use with for what the OP is looking to do.

In the past they have charged around $3/ton here. Charges may be higher now it has been a couple of years. A competent driver makes a big difference. If I was putting a driveway in from scratch, or top coating a long driveway I would hire the hauling. Small repair jobs for rental properties I use the dump trailer. I use the trailer more for demolition debris, rental clean up and firewood.

I didn't click on the various links so maybe it's apparent, but I notice lots of dump trailers can be gotten with loading ramps. Having ramps would increase the usefulness of the dump trailer. I've seen contractors hauling CUTS in dump trailers from job to job. Makes it a dual use trailer.

Just thinking about it George, maybe you could scare up an old trailer made from a pickup truck body. You know...one that has had a hitch welded to the frame where the cab used to be. Maybe from a junkyard. Then you could load it and pull it around with the tractor. Attach a trailer ball to your loader bucket, turn tractor around, attach to the trailer, lift front end of the trailer to dump. Does not have to be too fancy.

Just thinking of an easy cheap way...

N80,
I am not sure where in SC you live.
But there is a Quarry near where I work in Spartanburg that sells crusher run for $12.75 a ton... with a $20 minimum plus tax...
and they will load private trailers..

I need a few tons.. So I might just rent that trailer and do it...
If I only need 5 or 6 tons.. and I can pull 2 tons a load, then 3 loads for ~$25 each is pretty cheap....

If you need details PM me....

The beauty of the dump trailer is is when you only need a few tons.

Sure you have to add in travel time and costs, but it beats waiting all day to get a small load delivered.
