Main usage is hauling rocks, gravel, wood and equipment. Trailer house type frames will never take the twisting abuse and load. A little heavy yes.... but you won't find any future reinforcment patches added. I doubt if it weighs 4k complete.

Are you planning on anything like drop down sides, barn door tail gate, etc...? You should start a thread for your build, its interesting watching these home built units come together.

Registering a home built trailer under 3,000 lbs is easy here, the local town hall can give you a VIN. Over 3k is a pain, hopefully its easier in your town.

I bet it will be very close if not a tad over 4K. I sold my uncle a 14' BriMar Dump in 2004 or so. Its got dual 7K dexters and the 3 way rear gate with slide in ramps and its 4,200# empty and I doubt its as heavy built as this one. I have used it well over 20 times and its been across that many scales at different gravel yards and it always comes in at 4,200#.

Wish I had taken pics of the broken frame but heres after the repairs. I dont think I have really overloaded it or abused it enough to have caused this but...:confused3:

When the fame cracked, was it cracked on the bottom, causing the top to buckle inward? Also, from the pictures, it appears that the frame is constructed from box tubing, correct?

Frame wasnt cracked, it was broken open from the bottom. I mean the frame had a 11/2 inch gap at the bottom. Frame is made of box tubing kept light to reduce weight. Still these trailers are something every guy should have.

Definitely a must have.. Trying to maintain a mile and a half of dirt road 1 yard at a time in the back of a pickup is as tedious as trying to move a pile of rice with chopsticks.. Not to mention the many uses for my fledgling firewood business. Makes for much more time saved and energy left in your aching backside to be more productive.

After reading this I have been swayed from my plans on a dump bed for my truck, or getting my c50 running... if a trailer can outmatch a 5-8mpg c50 4 yard dumptruck and be pulled by my 12-18mpg f250 I'm sold already.. Hmm.. I wonder how much the bed weighs on that C50.. Could be viable to part the truck out and turn it into a trailer, yet drop it down low on a pair of 7k axles. Then use the rear end thats in it for the base piviot on a boom/grapple :thumbsup:

Exactly my case;
Why pay big money for an "engineered " keep the weight down trailer and patch it with ugly slabs of iron ? My brother bought one... loaded it with 3/4 the gross vehicle weight, and it folded in half crossing a field. He had to get an attorney to get his money back. I think the dealer payed the bill as the manufacturer had thirty excuses.

* In the midwest rust belt these lite duty tube steel trailers will self destruct with slight condensation encouragement in a matter of years.
