Thanks for the suggestions. Getting stuck isn't too big an issue for what I'm doing since I can get anything on wheels out real easy. It's the big dozer that I worry about getting stuck!!!!

I'm still looking at different trucks. I'm not in a rush yet to buy the truck, so that's nice. Once I get the trees cleared, or at least knocked down, then I'll start moving dirt.

My place has red clay with a few variations on that color. No rock or sand at all. I do have some huge dirt piles left over from WWII when the Army owned my land and used it for a rifle range.

One of these piles in particular has to be moved. Fortunately, my lake site is just down the hill from it. I plan to use this to build my dam and as fill material.

If you only will use it occasionally I would stay under 26,000 gvw to avoid CDL requirements. I know in MI that license plate fees are based on truck GVW for dump trucks. I bought a 1971 dump truck and because of its age the historic vehicle plate was $50 , good for 10 years. For a newer truck the plate would have been over $600 per year. I can safely haul about 5-6 yards at a time. I will attach a picture.
