That was my assumption. Most people ignore those warnings. Good on you for following the recommendation.

What is even worse it the people that think they can just replace the factory hitch that required a WD for over 5-600 pound TW with say a 15000# rated hitch that doesn't require a WD and think they are good. I am also wondering how they get around the WD system on the newer pickups that claim no WD required even towing 15000#. How did they get it set up so it doesn't unload the front axle.

You don’t need to do anything in order to dump you trailer. Leave the bars attached.

Toungue weight is dif that total trailer weight. Load your trailer correctly and you wont need a WD hitch.

The verbiage on my old truck was that a WD hitch was required when tongue weight was 500 pounds or the total trailer weight was 5,000 pounds, or over.

Well....that is actually not correct.
The OP has a loaded trailer maximum weight of 6500 lbs.
It is commonly known that tongue weight should be 9-15% of the gross.
He therefore needs a minimum of 585 lbs. tongue weight, but his manual states that a WD hitch is required over 500 lbs. tongue weight.

What would I do?
I would try to keep the cargo weight at 3,500-4000 lbs. whenever possible and skip the WD hitch.
BTW: I have a 14K equipment trailer that when heavily loaded, I use with an Equal-i-zer hitch, and the hitch does make a BIG safety difference!

Agreed. The only thing I that I do to dump or after dumping is reduce the trailer brake gain due to the lighter load. The only reason I would remove the bars is if you are traveling on bumpy roads. On mine the empty dump trailer seems to bounce a bit more with them on, but it is typically not an issue in my travels so I leave them on. And anything less than filling the dump trailer to it's weight capacity is just wasting time, trips, and fuel if you have multiple loads.
