Considering a DX18E for lawn mowing, garden tilling, landscaping and general use around my new home. Have a "lawn tractor" now and see why it's named that. Will this machine be re-saleable based on it's smaller engine? My dealer tells me the subcompact and compact market is really hot but will 18hp be enough such that enough others would consider it if I decide to sell?

Hi there and welcome to the list. What's the price difference between the DEX18 and 24? If you want to add a loader now or later that could swing the decision. If you limit yourself w/ HP w/ the 18, you might regret it later /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif If you'r just cutting the grass and pulling a cart the 18 is fine. Fill out your bio and it will help us see what you are up against /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am going to agree with the previous poster. You also may want to post this in the New Holland forum since they are the same tractor. You might get more people that have already bought the machines. My advice always has been figure out what class you want then get the biggest hp in that class. This will help on re-sale etc. I know this because I didn't do it but wished I had.

Re-sale will be better with the larger one also, but just mowing the 18 will be great.

Joe, thanks for the reply. The info you requested...

I think the difference for me is in the 2-3 thousand range. The 18 that I'm considering is a holdover from 2004 with a 54" deck. They also have a 23 with a loader (~3000) more and I think that's without a deck...

I doubt I would add a loader but anything is possible. I would like to add a pto-driven tiller for the garden and snowblower. I will be mowing 2-3 acres and like the idea of a well-built deck. There are other various uses I might have for this and can rent attachments rather than hiring it done. I'm sure this tractor would do more than I would need. My main concern is investing $10 G's in a tractor and losing my behind if I were to try and sell it. The question I have is would this be too underpowered for someone looking for a sub-compact or small compact?

I am considering this model for these reasons:

- Upgrade from my current Cub SLT1554 (mows great, but that's about all...)
- Investment in a machine that will last many years.
- Larger machine that will provide better ride.
- Options for many attachments (3 point hitch)
- Ability to pull loads that my current lawn tractor cannot.
- Possibly better resale than a garden tractor ?

So is 18 hp too small for a loader? Why? I thought diesel torque was key. Or is it just that an 18 hp loader will lift slower than 24 hp, or will it have less maximum weight capacity?

If I remember correctly, they both take the same loader.

edit......
They do, it's the LX110 loader. Same physical size tractor, same GPM hydraulic flow, same lift specs. The only difference is the engine. Here are the spec
