I have burned 10,000 gallons or more of E85 in my personal vehicles. If all AMERICANS would do this we could spend our $ in the US with American companies and with American farmers. This is about clean emissions and clean air also. This is NOT about food vs fuel. We have an oversupply of corn in US (and in China). Fuel prices are cheap, and E85 is cheap also. If your retailer does not offer correct pricing on E85 (Under E10 by about 30 cents a gallon) then pressure them to price their E85 in the market. If priced correctly others will use it. I personally do not care about MPG. The best MPG is about E30, but the benefits to the American economy far outweigh the little bit of MPG difference. Ethanol today and vehicles today are different than they were 15 years ago. Please vote for E85 when you buy fuel ! PS - Merry Christmas from Nebraska !:)
We don't need to burn food in this country, we are already energy independent. Gas and oil supplies in USA are estimated to be about 4000 years for know reservers. PS Merry Christmas from Texas. HS

TORRINGTON, Wyoming A Goshen County industry that opened its doors in 1995 is now set to close them, 20 years later. Wyoming Ethanol LLC arrived with the aid of a 40-cent per gallon tax credit from the state of Wyoming, and now the end of that credit is leading to the end of the local operation. Company sources said current corn prices and the falling gasoline prices make it impossible to be profitable, noting it takes $2.50 gallon wholesale to be profitable, while the price is now $1.80-$1.90 per gallon.

Everytime I pass an e-plant I cringe at the waste of energy to produce energy. The equation don't add up. It's common knowledge that the bulk of the alcohol producing sugars are in the stalk, not the kernels but American farmers are either too dumb or just set in their ways to take the entire plant and chop it for cooking. Europeans have no issuie with chopping for e-stock, American farmers, big issue.

Nothwithstanding, cooking shelled corn for alcohol is a negative energy producer, only made solvent with government subsidy. Without subsidization from the government (aka: crop welfare), e-plants wouldn't exist, despite the propaganda foisted by producers that are enslaved to the ethanol producers.....

Ethanol is a politically motivated shilt pile.

We had one of the first ethanol plants in the country here in South Bend. It ran for about 20 years and then went bankrupt. It sat shuttered for several years. Someone bought it last year and its operating again. While it was running the first time, many people built homes near it (guess they like the smell). When it closed, many of the houses got flooded basements. WHY? The ethanol plant was using so much ground water that it lowered the water table. When people had their perk tests done, no problem. When the plant closed, they stopped pumping ground water, the water table rose and the basements flooded.

So one more concern about ethanol that no one talks about is the MASSIVE water consumption.

Simply burning dried corn stalks in a generation plant boiler would probably yield a better energy gain ratio than all the processing steps required to transform a solid plant into a liquid fuel for engines designed for liquid fuel.... Actually, letting the land go natural without fertilizing etc... Letting timber grow for steam generation would probably be even better. I think some people have forgotten the piston engine was designed for the liquid fuel. This ethanol scam has it bass ackwards.

You come across as a paid, professional lobbyist for either the corn industry or ethanol. Your political affiliation is obvious with your last statement. Are you willing to admit that you are benefiting financially by either direct payment from the government or the ethanol/corn industry? Nothing else explains your spin in the face of the facts repeatedly posted on here, or the basic common logic that ethanol is bad for engines, hurts the environment and costs more to make then it generates.

Amen, Eddie.

I've been 'lurking' this thread from the get-go, as even the title, set off alarm bells of a biased 'greenie' hit-job. Any time someone's so-called argument starts off with wrapping itself 'in the flag' (IE: if you don't agree with me then you're a bad person) then it's no argument at all.

The next 'connection' I made is that the first post coincided with the beginning of the Climate Change talkfest in Paris. And isn't THAT a bloody boondoggle.

Uh, you know those ads are targeted at what you personally searched for in the past, don't you? ;) I'm seeing tractors, chocolate and beer. No Macy's dalmatians.
