You can take your ethanol and stick it up, I mean in your vehicles. Don't belong in my gas motors [ mowers/tractors/cars/trucks/generator/etc... ] :)

There's government subsidies for corn.

And there are government subsidies, grants, tax credits, for just about every crop you can mention and just about every other thing. Every one wants their cut of the action. 2015 budget had 3.5 million to promote weight loss for truckers. 200K to study the dating habits of seniors. And a thousand other nonsensical things. At least we get some stability in the agriculture sector via some of the government stuff. At the current price of almost all grain crops, even with some government subsidies in terms of crop insurance premium supports and other stuff, just about all crop prices right now are near the price/cost break even point.

And any corn targeted subsidies have nothing to do with ethanol. Farmers don't make ethanol behind the barn except some hootch. Ethanol producers have to pay market price for corn. Subsidies have little relevance to market price. Corn, like any other commodity, is a supply and demand thing when it comes to pricing. And in turn, ethanol producers have to sell their brew at market price for ethanol that is determined on the commodities exchange. And the ethanol folks get no subsidies since 2011.

Just causes me to wonder.... a lot of folks will have a fit over 4.8 billion a year that gets targeted towards agriculture crops, but barely a peep gets mentioned about the 14 billion a month spent during the Iraq war over 10 year period. We have a stable agriculture market that benefits everyone. Folks here spend the lowest percentage of their income for food of anywhere in the world. We got what out of the Iraq war? Watch the news lately?

You come across as a paid, professional lobbyist for either the corn industry or ethanol. Your political affiliation is obvious with your last statement. Are you willing to admit that you are benefiting financially by either direct payment from the government or the ethanol/corn industry? Nothing else explains your spin in the face of the facts repeatedly posted on here, or the basic common logic that ethanol is bad for engines, hurts the environment and costs more to make then it generates.

A lot of big farmers and other groups of farmers got together and financed the building of some of the ethanol plants.. So they are commited financially to pushing it in our fuel. I never liked it mixed with our gas. If they want to make it and use it as a standalone fuel, then i am OK with that.

Ethanol from corn?

Do you want me to thank you for using my tax dollars to float your "fuel independence" barge?

There is NO good reason to use corn to produce fuel when it costs $1.25 to sell for a buck.

Stupid!

THANK-YOU Cal. Ethanol and corn subsidies are a joke. When you burn corn you starve people in third world countries.

For years I've watched a large local farmer buy up all the land to grow corn for his cows all of this with huge subsidies when the price of milk is at an all time low. Everything on his farm is new or near new, he employs all illegal Mexicans and just a couple of local folks. DON'T even get me started.

I've got nothing against having an Ethanol pump at the filling station...

My issue is I have over 50 internal combustion engines with only two that are diesel...

Never had any issue with fuel until they started blending things... the last time it was with an original 1950 Plymouth that ran like a champ... put some blend in it and got less than 15 minutes from home and it quit... all those years of gum and varnish cut loose and what a mess...

It has to be a win/win and not a pain in the neck...

Just came across this to push the mandate above 10%....

I can get ethanol free at several places around here. It costs about 10-15% more for same octane rating. I get 5-8% better fuel mileage when using it. Cost of using is similar in the long run if not a little more expensive, but the benefit in my opinion is well worth it. My truck makes much better immediate power when using non-ethanol. It runs smoother. I do alternate because I can't get it at every gas station, but I do out of my way for all my small engines. I have been through too many small engines since ethanol was introduced and know better now.

I try to use ethanol free as much as I can to support it's continued supply. If everyone else would do the same, the ethanol addition would go away and the prices would normalize again.

It would be great if the SF Bay Area had filling stations where I could fill up ethanol free... sadly, this is not the case.

They can make biodiesel from corn. Not that I like biodiesel up here in a cold climate. I figure the corn farmers can make biodiesel to fuel their tractors... and leave me and my gasoline based engines to the normal dino stuff... And maybe lower the demand/price of real diesel for my Cummins/tractors... Plus, they would not have to truck the ethanol all over the country to mix with gas.
[ Win - Win .... :) ]

It's always interesting when somebody just joins this site and either just pushes a particular product like they are some random fan of it and want to share with everybody else how good it is, or somebody posts how they hate a product and then provide a very one sided argument of how terrible that product is, or the service they received.

Ethanol is a horrible product that costs more to create then it generates. It is terrible on the environment, and it has destroyed land that was previously set aside for wildlife. It is dependent on the government giving them handouts to stay in business that if stopped, would shut down the entire ethanol industry immediately.

The only thing it has proven good for is that it's a fantastic way to buy the vote of those in those states who grow corn. Those people know that if their welfare ever stops, they will never be able to make a profit growing corn for ethanol.

Well said EW. Ethanol is shilt.
