Oddly, predators tend to eat the bowels first. I'll lean toward a bird kill. Would have to be at least Hawk size. Interesting how Mother Nature operates.

Would like to agree, but found cat at dawn. Saw cat alive right at nightfall night before. Usually bird predators strap on a feed bag in daylight (except owl). It was definitely killed at night. Would an owl take on a large cat, disembowel like that?

I've seen hoards of bald eagles at a dump, easy pickins for them there...

I've also taken my share of picts of them while on hunting trips ect.., like this,

Here's one I like a lot,

I've walked up on eagles when it's raining hard, that were on the ground and so wet they couldn't fly. They really weren't all that worried about their own safety even though they couldn't fly...

SR's comment about the Eagle's lack of concern reminds of a story, bird related.

Years ago I was driving down a dirt road with my young Boys just cruising around. Open pasture on the right side. Heavy brushed fencerow on the left. Came over a hill and there was a Tom Turkey in the road. Started doing the typical Turkey thing of darting around trying to figure out what it should do. I sped up. Just before I got there it ran into the brushy fencerow. Slid to a halt, jumped out and ran into the brush. The turkey was so alarmed that it was trying to run thru a woven wire fence. It would hit the fence, bounce backwards, hit it again, repeat. I dived on it just as hit bounced off the fence. Bad idea. That Turkey flogged me, spurred me and at least once pecked me. I immediately let loose. It ran back out into the open roadway and discovered it could fly. :D

I can't imagine grabbing a live Eagle.....

When I walked up on the wet eagles, I was on Kodiak Island, about 10-12 miles back in the mountains trapping beaver, hunting deer and looking for bears. As I walked closer they (two of them) opened their wings and lunged at me, didn't look like anything I wanted to tangle with, so I just watched them and took picts from close range.

Once the rain let up and they dried a bit, they flew up on a low branch on a tree, to finish drying out. I moved on to bigger and better things. lol

We have to understand that wildlife is positive you are there to kill it. So they respond accordingly. Just as we would. :)

I am a turkey hunter. One of the first things I do when I shoot a turkey is run to it and put my boot on the head until it quits flopping. They can flop away or even run away after you shoot them.

Years ago a buddy picked one up by the head after he shot it. It spurred him all over his mid section.

After shooting a Buck Deer I straddled it, pulled it's head back by the antler and started to cut it's throat. It jumped up. Lucky I didn't stab myself with the knife. Never did that again.
