Rain is just about over here in NH. Looks like the rain total is just over 4" in my rain gauge.

Ontario TOU rates:

Electricity rates | Ontario Energy Board

Might not seem that bad, but once you take your (kwH charges + "made up" service charges) and divide by the actual kwH total for the month, most people are paying more than the maximum rate, usually a lot more. Some examples buried here:

A lot of Canada does not have cheap electricity. I'd say it is more driven by having significant heating and cooling seasons in many areas, combined with trying to get more efficiency than traditional AC compressors had in the past.

Don't want to drift too much more..... esp. given the seriousness of the thread.

Last #'s I could find had NC with about 1000 road closures, and SC around 200 roads closed.

Best Wishes to all affected, for the weeks ahead.

I'm sure laughing at how wrong the hysterical NYC weather forecasters were for predicting such doom and gloom.... you idiots.

Oops. It's breaking 68 year old records and it's not over yet.

Yup, not so bad. I guess some folks are use to seeing their rivers rise 62 feet every week. While most of the posters on this board show some common sense, there are a few long time posters who are a danger to themselves and others...

Yep. And they show up at the most insensitive time. Funny (not so funny) parts is they don't even realize it.

The thing about that picture is, they're doing exactly what they are telling the public NOT to do... that is, drive through standing water. While they probably know what they are doing, the public sees that, and thinks they can do that, too.

I read that a couple people died in a sheriff's van after it got swept away driving through water. And I've seen countless news stories where the news crew is filming from inside their car while driving through deep water. I've even seen one where the new crew's car floated and they had to abandon it.

I saw one common sense report on CBS news this morning. The reporter said several million gallon of raw sewage was released into the river, so he made the decision NOT to wade out into it, as seems to be the custom when reporting.

But why to all the reporters have to put on hip boots and wade out into a parking lot to report? It's ridiculous, and sets a bad example for the public.

Are we moving from weather discussion to the mental state of adult behavior? :)

I saw pictures. A lot of water, but no different from other flooding in other parts of the country at times. There were reports of nine feet of water expected and I envisioned situations like Katrina where people are stranded in their Attics.

Did this happen or is it still expected to happen? That nine feet of water? To me, there is a difference between being surrounded by water and being surrounded by nine feet of water!

I'm always thinking first and foremost of the pets actually.
