keep transfer pump handle on one tank, pick up second inexpensive 12v pump to move fluid from tank 2 to tank 1 with dispenser pump

$100 and be done with it
This is about like my pump.
Ones first thought is to connect the pump right to the tank/drum.
As you can see in my pictures I did not do that.
The pump sets on a shelf instead.
This allows portability of the pump so it can be transported from place to place and used on other drums/tanks.

Update on the oversized camlock fitting idea - turns out that getting any camlock fitting over 2" is a big deal special order around here so no easy way for me to evaluate hands on whether or not a 4" camlock set would hold the pump securely in place on a tank. folks seem to think stainless might but aluminum won't. verdict is still out on brass or iron. cost of stainless is so high i swore out loud. over $200 each piece. second pump would be cheaper. iron is affordable but no guarantee it would hold fast with lots of use. i am therefore back to two options: 1. separate skid mount approach or 2. removable hose idea to at least facilitate standard mount and removal.

Just put an additional support under the pump, a "pad" or skid if you will that will hold the weight of the pump off the camlock.

A couple blocks of wood and some plumbing strap would do it in a pinch.

I think I mentioned that those things were scary expensive. :)

Yes, we quickly figured out today that a complete new pump kit with filter would be considerably cheaper than going with those stainless steel camlock fittings. ran into more roadblocks on the last two options as well. hate to say it, but I think a second pump is the way we're going to go. All pump sharing options seem to have cost, physical support issues and/or potential fuel leakage problems. in other words, i am giving up, biting the bullet and am going to do it the right way. i'm sure i will thank myself in the future for having done so, but not being able to figure out a good sharing scheme will bum me out at least until the new pump is paid for.

The attached pictures show how I rigged my 99 dollar pump up to pump from the white drum or the blue drum .
IE 1 pump for 1 2 or more drums, tanks etc.
Notice the pump does not set on top of either one of the drums but is setting on a shelf.

If i wanted to do what you're trying to do I'd simply disconnect the copper union on the white drum and cap the 2 ends of the union finger tight .
Take the pump off the shelf and set it on a skid cart or trailer or in the bed of a pick up and haul it to the other tank.
Once I got to the other tank with the pump I'd simply take the house you see in the blue drum on the gray pick up and drop it in the fill hole of the tank and pump away after first clipping the wires of the pump to the battery post of the venicle i used to haul the pump with .http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/1409282-post1.html

Yeah, some of the specialty camlock stuff has specialty pricing to go with it.

We deal in it real regular, and some of the stuff is scary expensive, on more then one occasion I have had to ask the salesperson to repeat the price a couple times because I am sure I heard wrong.

Good luck, and at least if you have the two pumps you won't have to do any swaps etc.

For the same or a little more money I'd go the 2 pump route.

probbaly a little late, but here is what I saw that might work:
one of these on each tank

with one of these to cover it when not in use

and one of these on the pump side, with a plate bolted on to hold the pump and a hole for the dipper tube to drop into

total fittings cost: ~$110 (might be cheaper in 3 inch rather than 4", 3" would probably hold the pump without a problem but I didnt see all the parts in 3"), could be under $80 if you could get them to combine shipping, to say ~$20 for the whole thing (instead of $60)

that would likely be cheaper than another pump/filter assy.

Just my $0.02

Thanks for your oversized camlock idea alan but now its a done deal - i ordered the new pump for the new tank this morning. big and unexpected financial ouch that i had hoped to avoid, but yes, it will work out much better in the end.

You did much better than me in finding affordable camlock fittings, but i see that some are aluminum or unspecified and i assume aluminum. not sure aluminum would have been strong enough to hold that heavy pump rig bouncing around for very long. like i was told, camlocks are just not made to have big torque applied to them. my guy says that there isn't even a spec that he could find - not a positive sign. if anyone knows of a torque limit spec on camlock fittings please let me know. thanks.
