Echo vs Husqvarna

Jonsereds are Husqvarna's in a different color...

They come right down the Husky line in the Husqvarna factory...

Everyone who runs my Jonsered really loves it including me!!

I'd like to report a safety violation, Statute No. BR549, cutting wood with no chainsaw helmet................

Welcome to the new improved-ish Jonsered>>>> Chainsaws

If you hold on til Oct everyone here will get a good demo of Echo 501p vs the awesome first edition Husqvarna 550xp, both bought new last March and both have been on vacation since May. Two 50cc saws but I can state for a fact that the Echo is no match against 550xp, October will show it.........

I'd be more concern if bar oil didn't leak out by the bar, all the saws I had did. I once had a Stihl 44, 25 years ago that leaked oil in the case, had to split the saw and put new gasket on then it had more power, for 3 more years.

I am with you on that one, Echo are good value for the money although price have crept up last few years but there is no way they can match the pro grade Husky and Stihl on performance.

Akin to Hyundai vs Lexus.

BTW I have 2 Echos in my arsenal and I like them fine, easy start and reliable _ a 5 years old CS 500 and a much older CS6700

IMG-2223.JPG<<<< Echo bought last March from Frawley's saw shop, $449.95, delivered. 550xp bought local last Feb. $601.29 out the door. Due to the $150.00 price difference I'll use the Echo more.

... The only time that I had a really bad oil leak was with my 254 after cutting ice for beaver trapping. We used to run them without oil to keep it out of the water and I ended up ruining the pump.

Just use the veggie oil based bar lube (Stihl sells some - in a green jug. There are a few other brands out there as well.)

With no overhead hazards (as far as I can tell), the lack of a helmet doesn't bother me. The lack of some kind of eye protection is a concern.

Yeah, I was disappointed hearing that the Jonsered name was going by the wayside. Like Sawyer Rob, I've really liked my Jonsered saws over the years.

We avoided any oil as it causes a sheen on the water, making it hard to look down and see where the best place was to set a conibear.
That's the only saw that ever gave me a problem with the oiler, but it made up for it in other ways. It was the best saw that I've ever owned, even surviving getting run over when I forgot that it was in the bucket.

And ear protection to, kinda important to be able to hear suppertime without the ole neighborhood hearing it. That's why I like helmets they have both ear and eye protection and a helmet makes me look like I know what I'm doing...........

I have two Jonsereds, 2171, and 2151, both still run great. Makes no sense to me why a well known name brand would change it's name, but longs the quality is still there guess that's what counts...

My hearing is bad enough as it is. I wear foam inserts any time that I'm running my tractor, Troybilt, lawn mower, string trimmer,or any other small engine. They are comfortable enough so that I don't even take them out during lunch, and often I will forget they are there. If I'm running chainsaw all day I will wear the plugs and muffs, otherwise I will hear the saw running all night long. I just bought a new Husky helmet and while the muffs do work well- I probably could dispense with the plugs- they are also very uncomfortable, so I need to take an occasional break and get them off my head.

I've been using a pair of 3M muffs with the tractor, they have a rear band low at the neck line instead of over the top of the head, while wearing a "ball cap" with an ouch button (never figured out the reason for that button, but they don't look right without it...) they are WAY THE HECK better than the over the top strap, and do not matter as much on head size (I have a big head, hard to find hats that fit and all muffs have to be maxxed out) since they aren't even adjustable.

I think I have an Echo 361 saw in the back shed... I should get it out, I imagine it will cut circles around the Craftsman/Poulan 40cc saw...

I hope you know more about saws than cars.

In my opinion, Echo is a bit better then Stihl and a much better deal when comparing what your money will buy for each. Husqvarna is a big step below Echo, but better then Poulan.

If I ever decide to give up on Stihl I will go with an Echo. They are good.

Did not know Jonsered was rebranding. Not sure that is a good move. I used to have a Jonsered 49 that I ran several years. Then sold that to a nephew and bought a Jonsered 670. Both saws proved to be bulletproof. I'm sure the 670 will outlast me. Good machines from my perspective.

I have owned stihl, echo and husky (also jonsered)

I wont have anything but a pro grade husky. I really like running them!

Back to the ops subject. You'll be fine with the Echo. Only difference from your choice is I'd consider their 40 cc saw with a 16" bar. I feel that for not too much more money or weight , you'd have more of an all around saw.

/ Echo vs Husqvarna #57
I consider Echo a top 3 saw along with Stihl and Husky once you compare price, quality, dealers, etc. I have used Echo and Husky and they are good, but I prefer Stihl. Just my 2 cents.

I recycled my wife's worn out or rusted baking sheet pans. They go in the saw cabinet under the saws to catch the oil.

Hey, that's what I did! Just that my two saws are stored on a rack, not in a cabinet. :drink:

I had my old Homelite XL12 crap out on me 5 or 6 years ago on a Sunday, I'm a week end warrior not a pro wood cutter. I had intended to get a Still when the time came to replace the old XL12. On Sunday my options were limited to Husky (tractor supply) or Echo (home depo). The finale decision went to home depo and Echo CS400, thinking it would be easier to return if I really hated the saw. The Echo has exceeded all my expectations. I put a carb on it last year, not a big deal less than $50. Other than that gas, oil and chains. When this sh*ts the bed I will replace it with another Echo.

Echo makes some good saws. I tend to lean toward Husqvarna, but I'll admit I like the Echo CS400 better than the similarly-priced Husky 440e (I've not yet seen Husky's newer 440 IIe). Neither of them will touch the Husky 543 XP, but that's a pro saw, and quite a bit more expensive.
