Electric diverter..

Here are a few pics of my installation, it shows my joystick mounted momentary switch, dashboard mounted toggle that is wired in parallel and the last ones of the valve mounted on the FEL and quick connects on the cross tube. If you need any info on how I wired or plumbed my setup just let me know.

Funny question Kenny!! When I went to order this I remember you saying one was better than the other, so I went back to the first page. Then Re-read your post on which one to buy and clicked the link you had posted for the A model. Then just purchase the one the link sent me to.

After just re-reviewing my order, the links you had posted both go to the non-A version. No big deal, looks like i bought the regular one, not the A version.. :) Might want to edit your post if you can so in case some else clicks it they get the recommend one.

I have the 5117 model..

Thanks

Whoops! Can't go back and edit now!

Just as the diagram shows, you want a SPDT or DPDT switch, but of the Momentary pushbutton type. That way one solenoid will have power without touching the switch, and the other will have power when you press it. Here are some examples:

I am disagreeing with you on this. If no voltage is applied on the switch as outlined on the electrical schematic, the FEL valve will relieve. In the normal mode, curl function, the curl solenoid would be energized. When you use the grapple, the switch is flipped the other way, and the grapple is now in the circuit. If you are going to be operating a grapple all day, would you be pushing on a switch to operate the grapple. Just lock the switch in the grapple position and leave it there until you want to use the curl function.

I guess your talking to me?

I NEVER wrote anything about NOT having power to the valve, in fact I wrote:

It is correct that if there is no power to either solenoid then no fluid will flow.

An SPDT or DPDT momentary switch WILL work fine. You cannot use just the grapple all day, you have to use the dump/curl as much or more than the grapple.

For safety reasons IMHO the system should default to stock condition, hence the use of a momentary switch.

Thanks agian!

Thats what i was missing, i was looking at the wrong momentary switches, they only had two connections.. Makes sense now, wiring should be straight forward. Thanks agian..

You are welcome!:D

Sorry JJ,

Having used a fair amount of equipment to grab things with a 4in1 bucket on a loader (similar to a grapple) I have to agree with Kenny on this one. This is one usage that a way to mount a button on the joystick which could be opperated with your thumb would be very handy!!

A quick question for DonT as I don't want to digress off topic too far. Did you make the cross brace for your loader uprights? I've been thinking about doing the same for my JD.

OK, back on topic. My preference on the valves would be the -A series from Surplus Center as the normally off position would be for the loader while the 'on' position would be for the grapple. The advantage to this is that power is only being applied to the solenoids for a secondary function. This saves on amps and solenoid wear. The non -A series needs power regardless of which way you are diverting the flow.

No the brace is standard on my Kubota

I also agree with the thumb operated pushbutton, I have both a toggle on the dash and push button on the joystick wired in parallel. I don't think I've ever had an occasion to use the toggle. The Hurst shifter knob with NOS button works perfectly.

The problem with that Hurst shifter switch is that it is a SPST correct? Your valve only needs power to divert wheras this valve we are talking about needs power to one or the other solenoids at all times.
