Perhaps it's because we used the white, horseguardfence tape that is 1.5" wide, but we've never had to train our horses regarding the electric fence. The lowest tape is 3 feet off the ground (so it's not covered by snow in the winter) so the horses try to get to the grass on the other side of the fence. This usually means their ears touch the tape. A few shocks like this and they learn white tape = an oowie, even to the point where the tape doesn't have to be energized because they learn to stay away from it.I was reading tonight how you need to train your animals so we will build a small area fence for training so they do not run though it the first thing. The year old colt is all boy for sure.
I have heard from people who own cattle that cattle do not learn.
