Twinkletoes, please take this as another request for pictures or diagram of your gate. It sounds great.

Steve,

Can you dycrypt Canvas or Viso drawing files. I don't have a digital camera. My best bet for a camera is Santa, but for some reason he thinks I need ties and underwear. You would think he is the one doing my laundry./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I think some of the guys at work use Visio, so I could probably find a way to look at it. The gate does sound like a neat idea, so I'd certainly be willing to have a shot at reading your file.

I bought one of the Mule openers that someone described below, about $400 not including the solar cell (add another $100). The first unit was bad out of the box. I took it back to Home Depot, and got a new one. So far it works fine, although I am a little worried because there was already the right hardware attached to the gate post, indicating that the previous home owners had one there that had died. The solar cell has only not kept up with the charging one time, when I had pull the battery out and charge it on the bench, but I live in Florida where we get ALOT of sun. I guess I can say that I weakly recommend this opener.

We still haven't put up the opener. We did get the solar panels (2) mounted but have decided to remount them where they will get more sun.

twinkle toes,
Here's another vote for a picture! Are you any relation to Rube Goldberg? You sound like you would have done well at MIT during the "battle of the robot" competitions!!!! (Where they give the contestants a bunch of parts and they have to build robots that compete against each other) I have your concept down, just can't quite picture the pivot point..... Outstanding idea though!!!

Larry, a couple of questions for you. We put up the gate opener yesterday. We have a Mule system too. The video showed the system being mounted to a 4x4 or 6x6 post. We, however, are mounting it to a Sweet Gum tree (first time I have found a use for a Sweet Gum tree). Questions:

1. We need the gate to open 90 degrees. We've only got it to open about 50 degrees. We did move the adjustment knob per the instructions, but 50 degrees was as much as we could get. When mounting, there was a template showing a 90 degree angle between the gate hinge and the hinge of the Mule. Problem was this template was for use on a 4x4 or 6x6 post. Any idea how to compensate when mounting to a tree?

2. We have two solar panels to recharge the battery. We aren't sure if this will provide enough juice to keep the battery recharged, especially in north Georgia in the winter time. What type of recharger do you use. The battery looks more like a sealed motorcycly battery.

Thanks for any info.
