I found another interesting looking electric log splitter here: RamSplitter

They make both Gas and electric models. The electric is a 12 ton unit. Not a lot of info on the web site... not even a contact link or phone number to ask questions. Anybody heard of these guys, or have experience with them? From the specs and what I could see in the photos, it looks about like what I'm in the market for... something with heavier construction and more pewer than the 4 ton electric models which seem to be everywhere.

Interesting site. I had the sound turned down and kept hearing a background noise that seemed to be coming from the wall behind my computer, 'til I realized it was a chainsaw sound from their site. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a splitter about the size they sell but with an 8HP B&S that works great. Too big to keep in the garage for small splitting, so interested in the electric.

The only thing I didn't like about their models was the power source (elec. motor or gas engine) sits ahead of the axle and to me, in the way of the operators working around the splitter. Mine is on or over the axle, so the weight is better balanced for moving around, and as well, is out of the way for operating. Just a side opinion.

Looks like a pretty much worthless warranty to me. Especially the part about having to return it undamaged and without excess paint chipped off? Trying it out for 30 days would almost certainly result in some paint loss under normal use. I'd stay away from this company.

Harbor Freight only has a 14½" log length allowance /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Still looking, and even thinking of building now.

Will strong arm the pieces for now.

I'd be careful w/RamSplitter. I ordered an electric one over a month ago. He promised several delivery dates. The splitter never showed up time after time. Finally I called and he gave me a definite date. Splitter did not show up. Then about a week later the trucking company called to schedule the delivery. The next day the trucking company called again saying the splitter was severely damaged. I've now had three calls to Ramsplitter to cancel the order and reverse the charge on my credit card. They do not return calls and do not return money. WATCH OUT!

( Check out Country Home Products They are great to deal with. And best of all they are good Vermont company- I've been to the factory store, really nice people. )

I used to live in Vergennes, VT where Country Home Products is located. (Now I live a few miles up the road). I've seen their products up close and in use. They've got some good stuff, but their electric log splitter is a little light duty for my needs.

Rich -

Sorry to hear about your problems with Ramsplitter. It's a bummer... they were on my short list, and I was getting ready to order. Did you ever get to see the unit in person, or did it never get delivered? I'm wondering if you have any idea how solidly it was constructed (though the severe damage in shipping does not bode well...)

It's also curious that there is no contact info on their web site (no email, phone, or snail-mail address). I know some internet sales companies are just not staffed to handle phone calls, but given your problems, I'm even more concerned. Do you have any contact info for them?

Please keep me posted on how it works out.

I never got to see the unit in person. The trucking company said it was so badly damaged they would not waste their time bringing it here.
Ramsplitter had their phone number on the site but it appears they took it off. They also sell on Ebay. I'll send you a PM with the phone number.
I had my concerns over build quailty but was willing to take a chance. I spoke with Doug at RamSplitter two times about quailty and he assured me everything was fine. But he missed several delivery dates and when I called to cancel the order he promised it on a particular date. The trucking company called about a week later past the "drop dead date" to schedule the delivery but then called back advising me of the damage.
Since then I've left 3 messages and he never called back. He never called back to correct the problems and he never refunded my money. So the only recourse I have is to "dispute" the charge on my credit card.
It's a shame it turned out this way. I really wanted the electric splitter.

Upon further 'looking' into the electric 'cheapo' splitters, I come to the conclusion that you have to have both hands on the two controls (green button to activate the electric motor and the 'hyd. control lever' to activate the ram) so one couldn't hold the piece to be split in place. That feature pretty much stopped any more interest in an electric splitter of this kind.
Maybe I'll just park my gas splitter in the garage and use it, or put on an electric motor to run the pump - there is a thought. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
