Electrical Problem - JD 455

You can sight check it or jiggle it on the back if you can reach it while turning the key. If it responds at all; just stop and go get a new switch. My 314 and 317 won't run without a good switch, so it isn't just for starts.

If your 455 is like my 345, there is an electronic printed circuit board that controls all the electrical functions on the tractor. When it fails and mine has failed twice, nothing electrical works. However, the second time it failed, I discovered that I could start the engine by jumping across the starter solenoid. Try jumping across the starter solenoid to start the engine so you can drive it to the shop.

The replacement circuit board from JD costs about $130 and requires un-soldering/soldering several electrical connections.
