<font color=red>Oh my... this thread is deteriorating... conical thingies and synthetics...</font color=red>
Deteriorating???
It hit bottom when Bird mentioned pouring <font color=red>"too fast"</font color=red>
That's the problem - a thread about an implement that can't keep up with normal TBN pace.

Paper isn't a problem for most coffee drinkers provided it's unbleached and not flat bottomed. (Cone shaped gives you better extraction, i.e., more coffee particles in the water.) But when you get into the beans with delicate flavors (exotics and ultra-fresh) the paper tends to absorb some of the stuff that imparts the flavors associated with the coffees. I want my coffee in the cup, not stuck to the paper.

LOL! I'm convinced my wife married me at least in part because of my unlimited access to free coffee! Let me try to sneak out of the house before she awakes and I'm followed by her plaintive wails. "Caffeine!" she bellows. "I need caffeine and you don't love me if you leave me without fresh coffee!"

/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Oh No..
I would scoot down to your local kitchen supply store and look around purchase a darn good stainless steel coffee make that has a brand name.

<font color=blue>Mr Coffee is a joke</font color=blue>

I was beginning to think I was the only one that thought so. I hate to bash any product but I guess I've had too many overflows (like the ones you mentioned, Bird), and bad tasting cups of coffee with the Mr. Coffee machine. You might say I'm.......bitter /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif about it.

<font color=blue>Cone shaped gives you better extraction, i.e., more coffee particles in the water</font color=blue>

Now that makes good sense, even if it is a little gearheaded.

Terry all I use is a white westinghouse, We have had it for 2 years and works good. The best coffee I tasted was from my Mother in laws purculator coffee pot. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mine says, "Mr. Coffeeman, I need coffee!". If that doesn't work she threatens to make a pot of Folgers!

BUNN....ours is going on 11 years old, and still pumping out 5 to 6 12 cup pots a day. It is a two burner commercial type, and has the internal water storage/hot tank...pour a pot in the top, and two minutes later be pouring fresh coffee. Of course, it was spendy @ 219 bucks, but sure beat replacing them other thingys every few months.
