Why not just drink COWBOY coffee? Just throw the grounds and the water all there together in one pot and put it on the stove. No paper, no nothing in there to take away the flavor. Yuck!! Reckon Louis Lamour was telling the truth?

I have to say that I agree with the Braun or Krups recommendation. Until I bought these brands, I was getting a new Mr. Coffee, Norelco, Black & Decker, ect... about every 6-9 months. The Braun and Krups units have always given me 5+ years of service and better tasting coffee too. Sure they run about $100 + but that's cheaper than always replacing the other brands.

COWBOY coffee? thats not cowboy coffee! real cowboys never had time for a fire so they just shoveled in a spoonfull and chewed.

Terry go check the loading dock or warehouse at your local WCOM facility, I'm sure there are plenty of un-used coffeemakers there

It's been a few years, but we used to do that when camping and fishing all night 'cept we didn't use a pot; just used an old coffee can with the water and coffee grounds and set it in the campfire./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I actually believe that might be about the best coffee. When it's ready (starts to boil), you can remove it from the fire and drop just a spoonful or so of cold water in it and most of the grounds will promptly settle to the bottom.

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Went on a mission last night to scout out the stores with the family in tow... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif A few sidebar stops to calm the troops and a little slower pace to let the oldest daughter get some drive time so that she can get her license (where do you get new door panels for a Windstar van after squeezing my hand imprints into it /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif). I found a replacement. Its a Cuisinart Brew Central (see attachment for picture). Has a lot of the features of other brewers and a 3 yr warranty.

I seriously considered the Bunn but have reservations about the preheated water feature. Looks like that feature consumes 800 watts to keep the water warm. Not much really, but it goes on and off all day. Since I'm the coffee drinker in the house and typically only have coffee in the morning, I figured that the feature vs cost wasn't that critical to me. The CFO cast a weary eye at the feature also.

After reading the posts, I really looked over the possibilities. Man, there is some real junk out there. So again, thanks for the input.

Terry

Ahh shucks! you fellows are to picky about your coffee. When I load the old Kaywoodie with Half and Half and get a cup of mountain grown from that old stainless steel perculator and go sit on the patio and watch the sun come up, LIFE IS SWEET!
