Empty weight of Ram 3500 Quad Cab DRW 4x4?

Weigh the truck please, inquiring minds want to know! We have a 2006 Ram 2500 quad cab diesel and I have always thought empty weight was 7000lbs for us - basing that in part on the GVWR (doorjam sticker) and the advertised payload capacity.

I will when I can.. There is no truck scales I am aware of close, I weighed here at the plant because I had a gate pass and the guard was kind enough to let me weigh.. I do have a land fill that may have certified scales, will have to go by there one day and see what they have and report back

Man, that is a light weight dually. Did you actually weigh it or are you going off the manufactures BS? I guess I am used to diesels. My short bed extended cab 4x4 2006 F-350 PS weighs 7,600# with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel.

My 2 wheel drive 2005 Dodge 2500 Quad/diesel/auto trans weighs 6820 with me and full fuel according to Flying J scales.
I'm not sure what adding 4 wheel drive, extra leaf springs, cab lights, dual rear wheels and fenders will increase it to, but I believe Diamondpilot's 7500 pound estimate is very close.

Is 1800# a typical load capacity for a 2500 series truck? It seems kind of low to me. I would think 1800# would be more like the capacity of a half ton 1500 series. 2500's and 3500's with single rear wheels should be rated to haul in the 3000-4000# range.

The 1800 pound payload is about right for a typical diesel powered 250/2500 pickup. The gross weight is the same for all engine options of any given brand. Add the HEAVY diesel option and that additional weight comes right off of the payload, leaving you that much less. Diesel is great for pulling but adds a substantial weight penalty for hauling.
Many people ignore GVWR and use rear GAWR for hauling estimates, but that becomes another discussion entirely.

You are right for the most part. GM uses 3 GVWR, at least they used to. One for 2500, one for 3500, and one for 3500 DRW. Ford uses something like 15 different GVWR for the 250 and 350 SRW and 7 for the DRW 350. Most are available with any engine but the heavier ones are only available with the diesel, this is to keep the payload up. Not sure about Dodge anymore. I have not owned one for 6 plus years and have not looked or considered one since.

I think as Ford tries to trim down the production you will see less options on the low end but they will keep the heavy payload packages for bragging rights.

1800lbs is 1/2 ton truck payload, I don't think there is a newer 3/4 ton truck out there that only has 1800lbs of payload. Even a Diesel powered Ram 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 Laramie has a 2,690lb.

That would be the best for piece of mind. Most places only charge a couple of bucks for a weigh. Fill your fuel tank prior to give the heaviest weight scenario.

My 97' Dodge 3500 4X4, 5spd weighs in a 7600 lbs but I have an aluminum flatbed with dual 24" boxes on the sides.

Never go by anyone elses weight or some article or manufacturers spec sheet. Go and get it weighed.

Tire size and make, hitches, junk in the cab all add up.

I made it quite clear that these were GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) numbers, not rear axle GAWR. Yes you can probably load up to around 2690 pounds before exceeding rear axle GAWR (6010 pounds) but you're close to 900 pounds over GVWR. I also made it quite clear that the discussion between these 2 ratings is entirely a different subject and of course can become quite lengthy.

Per Dodge's online brochure, the 2009 2500 gas quad cab 4x4 long bed has a payload of 2,820. The diesel, same configuration, with auto is 1760, and with manual is 1690. That is from the official literature.
