my main concern about them is that i often work in the woods with my current tractor and i think the fenders on the 5003 series would get bent, scratched, caught up in limbs, etc. my current tractor has the fenders that are behind the rear tires and even they have a few small bends in them from hitting things in the woods over the years. i have to consider small things like that for my next tractor purchase.

Plastic fenders are pretty forgiving. I like those big heavy steel fenders.

Does anybody own a 5603 now? It sure seems like the deal in cab tractors.

D,

I have a 5603, and love it. It really does the TRICK. Kind of shocked by this thread. It makes me glad I'm adding a GPS tracker to the 5603 this week, to go with my CompuStar alarm. I just had a trailer stolen and I'm not losing my Mid Life Crisis 5603 :D

If I need another cab right now, that is the one I would buy.

I went with Farm Bureau insurance - they understand ag stuff. You might want to check into it.

D,

I'm licensed in Life, Health, Property and Casualty Insurance, so I'll join your Choir:eek: . I want to avoid the claim process in the first place.

My 5603 is insured, but a GPS would help me find the thieves, if that happened. It takes some publicity on some getting caught to put a dent in all the stealing going on.

It may or may not. Lock Jack is getting bypassed all the time around here.

If they want it - they will get it.

On the JD India site I see there's a 5104 and a 5204 now, as well as some 10 series. Products:Agricultural Tractors
Good find dgl.

The only substantial difference I see in the 5204 from the 5203 is going from a 9x3 transmission to an 8x4. I wonder if they're using the gearbox out of the 5005 series?

None of these tractors have ROPS!! I do like the nifty fender cages though. I wonder if those are intended for hauling people or stuff.

Here's a few quotes from the features section that made me chuckle:

Driving an John Deere tractor is an exhilarating experience. It's easy on you. The steering system provides smooth, easy turning. There are no aches, there is no pain even after hours of operation.

-and-

The John Deere tractor is sleek. Good to look at.

New line-up for 5000's consist of 5D (51/5203 2wd replacement), 5E (51/52/53/5403 4wd replacement), 5E Select Series (expanded range of tractors like the 5603 with upgrades), and 5M series machines (5x25 repalcement)...

All machines get one piece hoods, new loader added to the line-up...different transmission choices...looks to a nice revamp of the line-up without major price increases (except for the 5M series).

Also will see new 6D series machines which are entry level 6000 series cabs (to replace the 64/6603 machines).

What do you mean by major? My 5525 might be going up in value! I really like that tractor from mowing to baling, to moving hay - what a great tractor. I wonder what they are going to do to improve on it. Maybe make it easier to change the hydraulic filter or put a regular oil plug in the crankcase. :)

I would look for 5% across the board in for the 5M series...but they are "upgraded" machines...

1. So how does the new nomenclature go? The successor to the 5303 would be a 53E? 5E3? 530E?

2. What do you mean by one piece hood? My 5303 seems like one piece, but I'm assuming you are talking about something different.

3. Are they still using the venerable 2.9L PowerTech?

Thank you for posting the new info and thank you for indulging us with all of our questions.

5103 replacement is the 5045D (5000 series, motor hp, and series). So the 5303 replacemtn is the 5065E, 5525 replacement is the 5095M, 6603 replacemt is the 6115D, etc.

The hoods on the current 5x03 series machines had side panels, the new hoods are bascially the hood used on the 5X25 series machines. No mention on what motors are being used but I am sure they are the same.

sounds like a good bit of redesign is going into these. will they have the look of the current 5003 tractors are will they be taking on the look of the 5025 series? as far as fenders go and such.

more hydraulics would be good too. Of course if we keep going won't have an economy tractor anymore.

How about having a 12x12 PowrReverser transmission for the 5003 series, too?

The new 5D & 5E series have the square fenders. A 12x12 reverser would really defeat the purpose of having a "value" tractor. 12x12 only available in the 5E Select Series...new transmission options in the 5M series.

I was just starting to understand the model numbers, now they go throw letters in the mix. What do the letters mean anyway? There has got to be some logic around this naming change.

Also - I don't think JD will put too many of the neat nice features in the lower cost lines because it will cannibalize their higher end tractors.

Not only that, but I explicitly bought the 5003 series because it is simple. No computers and no hydrostatic driveline.

As an owner who doesn't spend fourteen hours a day on the tractor, I can get away without all of the ergonomic and performance gizmos associated with "real" work. I needed a tractor with 1970's technology and reliability with a commensurate price.

If they start loading up the 5003 series successor, they will miss my demographic.
