Engaging 4WD on Ford/New Holland 2120

Anyone ever modified it to stay locked? Maybe something as simple as tieing it down when needed. Any negatives to this?
I have a tough time remembering not to forget to unlock my brakes, can't imagine I would ever remember not to forget to unlock my diff.

I realize having it locked makes it harder to turn, but there are times where I would want it in for long periods of time.

We got 3 feet of snow now, and thick ice mat. Without a load I am fine with it un locked.

But this weekend I was pulling out a truck with a load of firewood. Kept spinning. First one set of chains, then the other side, and still tough time.

My property is sandy. I'd rather not wait until my tire is spinning to lock the diff.

I wouldn't but a truck without locking rear. My side by side has a lever.

This is my first tractor, I come from a 4x4 woods background. I just can't imagine why someone would want to ride with their foot on the pedal. To me it seems one step above worthless.

Not to mention there are times I'd like my foot close to the brake.

Is there a mechanical reason I don't want to rig a lever to hold the lever down?

I don't have weight in the back. Maybe I will. But weight in the back of a truck will not make a 4x2 in to 4x4

The diff lock engage is a bad design on many tractors, often placed so its as hard as possible to engage and if you is lucky its a hard job to keep it engaged.

I made a mistake on the title of this thread. I realize that now. I meant diff lock.

But it really isn't 4x4 drive if you only have 2 wheels being powered

What are you confused about? I thought the confusion would have ended if people read past the first few posts.

I should titled this thread did lock.

A vehicle with one spinning in the front and one spinning in the back, is not 4wd, and about useless IMO.

Would you buy a truck without locking rear diff?

It surprises me tractor people are ok with this. I could see on an antique, but not the 90s.

Differential lock description, per Ford manual::

"Depressing the pedal locks the REAR AXLE SHAFTS TOGETHER"

Thanks for helping. But I figured this out a few days ago.

So my question now is, would it cause damage, if rigged up a lever or tie down to hold diff locker, by my right foot down. I now realize as soon as I take my foot off the lever it disengages the locking dif.

I made a mistake, I meant engaging diff lock, not 4wd.

Yes I realize this makes it harder to turn.

Yes I realize this is the way they all are.
