Engaging 4WD on Ford/New Holland 2120

Differential lock description, per Ford manual::

"Depressing the pedal locks the REAR AXLE SHAFTS TOGETHER"

I was under the mistaken beleif it would stay locked. I thought I pushed the lever to lock and unlock. I didn't realize until the first few posts, which I acknowledged, that I have to hold it down.

I find this a poor design, and would like to modify it. The design seems so useless to me, that I thought something must have been wrong, when I realized I have to hold it down.

I made a mistake on the title of this thread. I realize that now. I meant diff lock.

I should titled this thread did lock.

Thanks for helping. But I figured this out a few days ago.

So my question now is, would it cause damage, if rigged up a lever or tie down to hold diff locker, by my right foot down. I now realize as soon as I take my foot off the lever it disengages the locking dif.

I made a mistake, I meant engaging diff lock, not 4wd.

Yes I realize this makes it harder to turn.

That is a crappy design. So you if you are or on mud or ice you must keep your foot on it the whole time. I would have expected it to stay locked until released.

Anyone ever modified it to stay locked? Maybe something as simple as tieing it down when needed. Any negatives to this?

So if we can get past my first post, which was in error, has anyone modified the locking diff to stay locked, after you remove your foot?

Depressing the diff lock on mine (older than yours) the lock is engaged / pedal stays down without being held until conditions change and the tractor senses it is no longer needed OR direction (forward / reverse) is changed.
