Hi folks,

I usually perform all service work on my vehicles and equipment. That said, I need to take my tractor in for the 4wd solenoid to be replaced. While they have all the hydro oil out, I plan on having the dealer change that hydro fluid and filter as it is due for the 50 hour service. I'm delayed getting the tractor to him, and I want to change the engine oil here myself. Does anyone know of a high quality oil filter (WIX is my fav) available for this tractor?

Thanks,
Mike

Wix cross reference was wrong on my Perkins too.

Or was it NAPA cross reference? I forget. Anyway, it was wrong.

I took the filter back and the looked it up and the # was good so I will try another filter. It would not thread on the first time.

I got an incorrectly marked Napa filter last year, that caused me all kinds of frustration. Ask them to grab a bunch off the shelf and compare the hole size to yours.

Never ceases to amaze me how much grief guys will put up with to 'save' money.

You guys are worried about a filter screwing on a base. How about media properties, bypass valving and stuff that matters?

What is the cost per hour of the OEM filter used to the published drain interval?

I got napa because it's SUBSTANTIALLY more convenient. The bobcat dealer is open m-f 8 to 4, when I'm always working. So, to get parts, I have to order or make a 1+ hour trip.

I really not saving much as the filter is a Napa Golds series. The store is much closer to me and is open later on saturdays.

Rick, Where do you buy your filters and parts from for your car or truck? Do you go to the dealer?

My dealer is 6 hours away. I did realize that the Perkins distributor is a mere 1 1/2 hours away, so I have been buying filters there.

The manufacturers of machinery do not make filters. The filter manufacturers do. All you have to do is buy quality filters from anywhere convenient. Anywhere at all.

I believe the Perkins filters are made by Donaldson, a manufacturer of quality filters.

Does anyone know where to match up the hydraulic filters?
Those are the ones I haven't been able to find locally (locally meaning only 1 1/2 hours away).

Never ceases to amaze me that some folks don't realize that other folks live where services are not just around the corner.

Yeah I've heard all that: nothing new. But when a retailer can't even sell a filter that screws on the filter base of the unit in their own cross reference, the concept of quality filters from "any source" falls flat. Not everyone lives around the corner from a dealership, I get that. In fact I ship parts out every day to folks more than a short drive away. UPS, FedEx and the post office are pretty good at what they do, at least in the US.
I just don't get otherwise intelligent folks that insist they have to drive to a dealership to make purchases. I have yet to find one that does not ship parts.
I get a few calls per year from guys standing AT an auto parts store counter asking me for OEM filter part numbers. I wouldn't suggest anyone at TBN would do that of course.

You didn't answer my question. Where do you buy your Auto parts and filters from? The dealer?

Sorry I didn't see your question. Most of my vehicle filters are OEM purchases. Those that are not are almost all made by the OEM filter manufacturer. When I can buy a Delco PF46 for under $4 why would I buy crap like Fram? The Escape gets Motorcraft. I do buy Mann oil filters for my Mini. Tractor filters are OEM or Fleetguard.

I'm not exclusively against aftermarket filters. I sell several Fleetguard filters for NH applications because the NH filters are stupid money. I firmly oppose the mentality that if the gasket and thread dimensions fit it's good to go.

"I firmly oppose the mentality that if the gasket and thread dimensions fit it's good to go." I agree with that as there is much more to a filter than just fit.

I think most of us get it that not all filters are created equal...

I use OEM filters and quality fluids. I'd do this even if I had to have the filters shipped to me.

Personally, i purchased 3 sets of filters (air, oil, fuel and hst) at a time and had the dealer ups the package to me. They were about 2+ hours drive time and i dont have 4 hours available to save $30.

This gave me years of parts in storage at my shop.

I only buy factory parts fir anything i own. Ive had too many issues with after matket parts over the years to go that route unless i cant find factory part.
