Renze, 8.8 is approx equivalent to Gr5. Gr8 is about like 10.9. Good points about heat and bending. Up to 400F can be used without changing the metals basic characteristics however. This is a great tool to enable bending of stiff metal with less danger of cracking. To gauge the temp clean the metal down to a shine and heat until natural silver color changes to straw brown. Bend it. If you accidently go past straw to blue its a little oops. If it glows red you have truly compromised the heat treatment badly. Also, threaded rod presents a worst case situation for stress in bending due concentration of stress in the notches. Threads on the inside and outside of the planned bend should be ground off.
