Enron

Unfortunately, the Enron executive's suicide is probably not the last.

Enron is/was an enormous corporation (100B revenues) with financial positions/stakes throughout the global economy. They contributed to and lobbied both political parties.

The thing that I think we have to be certain not to misinterpret/misconstrue, is that this was a FINANCIAL scandel (criminal in my estimation) perpetrated by the CFO,CEO and financial auditors of Enron....................It had nothing to do with the US government political system..................Let's not get confused.

Want to see where the contribution money really comes from and who it goes to? Check out this site: http://www.opensecrets.org/ Notice all the different search options to "follow the money". They track every contribution dollar reported in the whole country! It's a real eye opener /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Hi Egon,

I presume you mean around the Devonian Botanic Gardens. They are very beautiful out there in the spring/summer. And now you are out on the East coast eh? That's a bit of a move! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Got tired of the prairies and decided to see some water? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Nova Scotia is very beautiful. We have family that used to live in Halifax, and we made a pilgrimage out to the Maritimes when I was a kid, camping the whole way. Now that was a drive!!!

Take care,
Kevin

Kevin:

I retired and the wife comes from the South Shore so we moved out here. Moved ourselves as it came out much cheaper that way. Took two and a half round trips. Got real familiar with the road.
We live in town but have land out at a lake where I spend much time letting Mother Nature defeat My humble efforts.
Sure don't miss the weather you've got right now.

abc,
There are time its better not to drive down a muddy road in spring...and its spring time for Enron.
From the top dog down to whom ever until the facts are known..for the tax payers will foot this bill..again..but leave the wood shed door open and the light on.

If the CEO and others did in fact line there pockets w/$$$ in which hurt alot of peoples future..yes one should be /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

When I was channel surfing the other night, I came across Alan Keyes new program. He put up a statistic of some other companies and their employees 401k distributions. There was one where the employees 401k's were made up of 92% of company stock. There were a couple of more with higher percentages than Enron. I just gotta wonder if this will make these people rethink their distributions.

On a side note along the same lines...I was just wondering if there were a lot of couples out there who work for the same company. I've seen several families where a company went down and to make it worse, they both worked there. I just gotta think this isn't the best idea in our somewhat volatile economy.

ABC,

Chuck here. Fully registered and occasionally irritating to my fellow TBNer's I guess. Most of
the guys do seem to lean toward the Republicrooks rather than the Demothieves, but most also
seem at least somewhat reasonable about matters political. Apparently Enron gave quite a bit
more money to the Repubs than the Dems, and if it were proven that this got them something
from the Bush administration, I'm sure most here would jump on Georgie with almost as much
fervor as they show when damning Bill for his sexual peccadillos and lying about same. Now in
my view, the Enron disaster, which may have ruined the lives of hundreds of their employees and
cost many others a big chunk of their savings, is so much more significant than Bill's messes that
a comparison is impossible. However, I do not doubt the sincerity of those here who were so
strongly offended by Bill's actions that they would disagree with my assessment. Again,
however, I seriously doubt the sincerity of many in the Republican party who gleefully pursued
Bill while having their own extra-marital escapades. They reminded me strongly of all the
television preachers who did exactly that which they preached against. Let us hope that their
economic actions aren't equally suspect. BTW, there are a number of Republicans I admire.
There are a number of Democrats I would as soon never hear from again. Generalizations
aren't worth much, except to those who benefit from their power to persuade

Based upon the information uncovered thus far, all the cash both Enron and Arthur Anderson tossed about, bought them nothing from the Administration.

That was a ruse. Apparently the $100B revenue was largely a reflection of the amount of power that they brokered. That is considered a highly questionable practice. Ask Merril Lynch what the total dollar value of the stock they broker is, and you will get a huge number; possibly bigger than Enron. However, Merril (I just picked them as an example) only claims the actual commisions as real revenue.

Bottom line is that Enron was playing a shell game, and all the people that should have been paying attention weren't. That includes all the holders of their stock. I'm just glad I didn't get sucked in.
