Equipment trailer, 16' vs 18' dilemma

No matter what the company is Sikeston region makes the best trailers for the $$$$$$$$$. The Gator Mades are a little nicer then you step up to the PJ, ect.

Chris

See? The few PJ trailers I've seen around here I wouldn't even consider buying.. The Gator., again few that I've seen, was designed and heavier built many times over comparing PJ and basic Gator,, In particular,, both being bumper pull, two and tri axles...

JB4310,

If you get you a trailer and think you need a weight distribution hitch, here are some pictures of what i have used for 9 years. It is a Equalizer-4-point sway control, weight distribution hitch.

The tongue weight---1200lbs. Max weight---12000lbs.

The metal from the hitch to the trailer are solid 1 1/2 in.

I put it on the tractor so you could see it better, then i went ahead and put it on the trailer.

I also showed a picture of air bags on my truck, i have a slide in
camper and pull a boat together, that's the only reason for air bags.

7' is a good width inside edge to inside edge.. .. I wouldn't dare go 6'. 7.5' edge to edge would be fine for a deck-over.. but for one with fenders on either side.. 7.5' is starting to get wide in the driving lanes when looking at outside edge to edge dimensions.. most car haulers I see are 7' between the fenders..e tc..

They put a Reese Receiver on the bottom one of the first stack and pull 4 more behind it.
Chris

IS that legal in all states ? I never seen a second trailer towed in NYS.

In Indiana its legal. We double pull all the time. You must plan you fuel stops carefully. The biggest thing I ever double pulled personally was a 10,000# 32' boat with a 1,200# jet ski behind it. I made a custom hitch out of a old Reese hitch off a Ford Taurus for the boat trailer then made up a 32' long "Y" adapter for the lights that I just zip tied to the first trailer for that trip. It was a 6 hour each way trip that went fine. Went from Northern Indiana to Tennessee.

A neighbor of mine pulls a 38' 5th wheel camper and a 19' bass boat behind a 2006 Dodge Cummins 3500 4x4. I am not sure what his longest trip is but I know he goes to Florida from Indiana every spring break. Not sure if he takes the boat on that one or not.

Here is a towing guide per state, its at the bottom. Also list the tow ratings for all newer vehicles, very handy. This chart is geared toward boaters so it does not list 5th wheel or GN tow ratings, only bumper pull.

It says New York does not allow double pull. Another reason for me to stay in Indiana and out of the North East.

In Kentucky you can pull doubles, when i owned a travel trailer i would pull it with a boat behind it, i would pull it 120 miles one way.

I sold the travel trailer, now i have a slide in camper and it is much easier to tow both, Because i am hauling the camper and pulling the boat.

The one thing i hated about pulling a camper with a boat behind was most of the time you couldn't see the boat if it was small.

Chris,

Have you ever been to CAVE RUN LAKE?

Now that the length has been hashed about what about the width?
Would that be 6 7 or 7&1/2 feet?

The one I looked at was only 77" or 6'5" wide which for now is OK for my needs but doesn't leave much for expansion.

What a trick that width plays on you when you look at the length, the 77" -- 16 footer, LOOKED at least 2' longer than 16' trailer that was 7'6" wide, and that was almost side by side comparison.

Have you gone to Ct trailer in Bolton? They supposedly have a large selection to choose from.
