well, one thing for sure, this challenge will go away with electric power. With all these charging stations being built, now through Europe too, and VW and BMW both
making huge investments in electric power, plus Tesla of course, wait until all those model 3's get on the road, we will then be making much more room in "gas" stations for the
plug ins. They will need overhead signs to direct us in to the right spot...

Kind of gives me a chuckle because I have automotive engineer friends in Germany and when we first talked about electrics they thought it would not work for Europe... high speeds and brutal cold winters in the North...

One of my friends... actually my cousin's brother in law owns a Tesla in Salzburg Austria... I thanked him very much for his purchase as Tesla is made in my backyard of Fremont CA.

I have been using various blends since the late 70's, as have many of my neighbors. If there was going to be any appreciable problem in doing so, we would have come across it. My 1974 Pontiac did just fine on E10 for over 250,000 miles. My '79 Bronco (another carbureted vehicle) did just fine on it for most of it's life. And every vehicle I have had between then and now has gotten E10 all the time, with the flex fuel versions jumping around on various blends. Still waiting for the major pitfall in doing so. Sure, you will find some occasional anecdotal stories of ethanol causing a major problem, but usually, when all things are considered, it had more to do with the negative condition of the engine and fuel system already, or a serious goof in fuel management and storage. Leaving E10 in a vented container or vented fuel tank for quite a while in humid weather is pretty stupid. And a fuel system that has a lot of varnish and other buildup in it will get a major cleaning out with E10 and can have a detrimental effect on filters and carbs. But it wasn't the fuel's fault, it was other things.

But it all comes down to one's comfort level. If one just cannot stand the idea of ethanol in their fuel, then don't buy it. If your state doesn't allow E0, then either live with it or move. Better yet, put leverage on your hired help at the state capitol. There is no mandate by the Feds that all fuel must have ethanol, nor is there any ban on ethanol free. That is a state directed or city directed issue. I can get ethanol free regular and premium all around me in almost every town at the majority of filling stations. If there was a ban of E0 by the feds, I should be seeing it. But even with all the ethanol free around me, ethanol blends outsell it by several margins according to state data. We just don't suffer from enlarged paranoia glands.

Saying either live with it of move is very harsh...

I have a third option and that is to speak out against it, to legislatures, through the old car and small engine lobby and widely on public forums in print and electronic.

Simply saying it is my fault for having a vented fuel system... well... many fuel systems ARE vented... millions and millions to be sure.

Varnish and build up that present no problem on a classic suddenly require expensive repairs....

I never experienced vapor lock prior to ethanol... I own 50 classic/antique vehicles.

My 61 Corvette quit and it was due to vapor lock due to a change to ethanol.

What is right is right and nothing right about being steamed rollered by regulators catering too the corn lobby.

I'm no fan of Trump... but if he can reel in some of this nonsense I will be.

By the way... one side of the family farm and have been doing so for generations going back 300 years... now the new regs have dairy scrambling to capture methane from cow farts... go figure.

Maybe 9 million... +/- 420,000 in my city of Oakland.

My closest TBN friend lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains...

Have several tractor friends not on TBN in the Santa Cruz Mountains... 7 miles on a gravel road subject to closure in wet weather... off grid living deep in the Redwoods.

That is the twilight zone where there is a time warp of some kind. The Santa Cruz mountains is caught up in the sixties when there were hippies everywhere. If it ever got really cold there, half of them would probably freeze to death.

WELL, if they kick out all the illegals, how many hundred thousand cars will THAT get off the roads?? lol

SR

I like that. You should tell Trump about it. He's looking for people with their thinking caps on.

The few stations that offered E85 no longer do so... the "Pumps" are now Hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles.

I have no idea statewide... only in my trading area.

Yet another debacle. Where do they think the hydrogen comes from? As idiotic and environmentally irresponsible as electric cars are. First find a way to power the grid, then you can do electric cars and such that makes sense but until then you're just getting further behind the game and less efficient into the bargain. Perhaps the greenies could use a few more engineers spread around their ranks. Of course they'd have to learn to sit down, STFU and listen for a change.

Are they still in the NUMMI plant? I'd heard something about them moving to LA or something along those lines.

Are they still in the NUMMI plant?

Yeah, Tesla bought that plant from NUMMI for a super-low price, with a govt-subsidized loan. They
make maybe 30K cars there per year, in a plant that used to make 400K+ cars per year. ULTRA's
Corolla and my small Taco were made there.

Now Tesla's new Li-ion battery plant is being built in Nevada, due to a tax subsidy by that state.

I have recently seen the new hydrogen-powered cars here in the Santa Cruz Mtns....the Toyota
Mirai. $60K, BTW....I wonder what kind of subsidy those get....

Yep little islands of private land holdouts surrounded by ever increasing park lands.

True off-grid except they have underground copper phone service... 7 to 10 miles in and telephones with candles for lights and spring water for the homes... deep in the redwood forest... really very spectacular and yet a world away.

One of the plots started a new life in the 60's as a commune after being a logging camp going back to the 1800's... The one room all hear redwood school house is still there slowing being reclaimed by nature.

Very simple lifestyle... with many now in their 70's... about the only to make a living is crafts, writing, logging and AG of the herb kind...

Directions are simple... drive the Pacific Ocean, turn Left on Highway One and left again in Davenport and 7 miles up the mountain...

Yeah my Tacoma was made there too. I went on the tour two or three times. If I had my way all of these idiotic subsidies would suddenly come a sudden end. If they want to spend money on something, how about start at the beginning of the energy chain where is makes some sense not at the very end. Once you have a way to power the grid in place, then you can worry about how to use all of that clean cheap energy. Something about horses and carts.
