My only problem is not being able to buy ethanol free... I think it's great ethanol is available for those that want it... but why in the SF Bay Area is ethanol the only option... millions of people live here.

So then let's see... pasteurized milk is a subsidy, seat belts are a subsidy, and the list goes on and on. I stated, and I still stand behind it, that the mandate may be in a round about way considered a subsidy, but ethanol is barely is a blip on the radar compared to all the other things that are either mandated or outright paid for with the tax payer money thru actual subsidies, grants, etc.

The biggest failure of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is the mandated increase of volume for ethanol blended fuels. Ethanol was implemented so that our farmers would enjoy the benefit of crop-price stability, while we would enjoy a new domestically produced energy source. Tree huggers were promised that our environment would be protected by the promise of a cleaner fuel. Twenty years into this project, a decade after Bush's 2006 administration pushed increasing ethanol blending that Obama's administration has further pursued, and the likelihood of a better environment, cleaner fuel with a reduction of oil use, more jobs, with greater abundance of energy, and new evidence has shown that the justifications for these mandates were inaccurate.

At the end of the day, ethanol now exists so that politicians can pander themselves for your Iowan caucuses. While American consumer's shoulder the increased cost of this growing boondoggle that has failed to deliver on its promises and was conceived in an era when engines ran dirty.

I wonder what it would do to a small engine to run an occasional tank of E-85 for a cleaning.
The fuel tank caps on my zero turn read
" Max of 10% ethanol blend. More the E 10 voids warranty"

Yeah, I know, just like most vehicles. But all sorts of fuel cleaners and additives are dumped in tanks to attempt to clean things. I wouldn't try E85 in an engine other than to fill, run till empty, and refill with good gas. I know it can break down seals and gaskets that aren't formulated for it. Honestly I wouldn't try it at all unless desperate. I guess I'd better add a disclaimer to my post above.

<snert> Agreed. You know where I live and even I know why. You live in the Peoples Democratic Republic of California... the land of every "green" piece of legislation known to mankind. The land that every other "green" organisation points to and says, "See! They're doing it there. We need to do that!!!"

My only guess is the Bay Area Air Quality Management District only because there are a few retail sellers in the North and South... so it would seem not to be a State wide prohibition.

As a side note... I like reading posts where members find out they are neighbors or nearby... so far my nearest TBN member is about 50 miles away and also kind isolated...

I should not be surprised as many of the counties around here don't have a single Tractor Dealer...

And not only is "California the Peoples Democratic Republic of California", San Francisco is the moral heart of that "Peoples Democratic Republic".

How long do you think a Trump/Pence sign would last in your yard in San Fran?. About as long as a snowball in He77. A service station handling E0 fuel in San Fran would be boycotted and picketed every day.

I've never seen one... but my retired Telco neighbor wears his Make America Great Hat all the time... 83 years old and hard of hearing... he said it is better that way because he might get pissed off if he understood the comments from people when he is out... simply smiles and nods his head.

I didn't think California bay area and "Isolated" went together at all. How many people live within a 2 hour radius of your place?
