Ethanol vs non ethanol gas

That manual I linked to calls for 89 octane. No point in using 91.

2008 was when they started adding ethanol up here, and it was all that you can find. That saw's long gone anyhow, more and more stations are selling ethanol free in their premium pumps and that's all that I will run in my ATV, chainsaw, outboard, and various other small engines. My 545 has never had ethanol.

Used ethanol in my 1982 Stihl, which is the oldest engine i have. Doesn't get near as much use as it did. To start it, choke, pull once, pop the trigger, pull and it starts. No mushy fuel line. Only thing is, the ethanol makes my chain dull sooner then it used to.

That's not surprising. It also causes male pattern baldness; I didn't have this bare spot until I started using E-10 back in 2008.

Hmmm.... I never made the connection, but now that you mention it.... hmmm.... :scratchchin:

I don't use any ethanol blend in any air-cooled engine primarily because of "phase separation". I've experienced the effects and it isn't pretty.

For at least the past 10 years I've used Lucas ethanol fuel treatment on all my 4 and 2 stroke engines and they have performed just fine. I do buy non ethanol fuel when it's convenient.

We don't have ethanol free 89 around here. At least I've never seen it. Only 91.
Odd. I can't find anything around here other than 87 octane non ethanol. Is there a fuel treatment that raises octane level?
