But battery swapping doesn't work according to some. The new 5 minute charge is about the same time as a swap.

Then there's these guys:

NIO and CATL form new partnership to build the world’s largest battery swap network

Who is paying for this rental service? The cost of stocking enough to actually swap plus paying for used up batteries is substantial. An actual rental business would probably get $150 per day for renting something that cost as much as the battery.

We are already in the works to get rid of Castros kid. An election is expected this summer due to his resignation, all due to extremely low polling numbers for him before Christmas 2024.......and great polling numbers and landslide polling numbers back then for our Conservative Leader to easily become Prime Minister.......EXCEPT that due to Trumps ridiculous economic war in 2025, and annexation threats, tarrifs etc, our Conservative Leaders polling numbers are dropping quickly due to him being accused of being to much like Trump. So despite you and your Trump not wanting to have a left wing country to deal with......Orange Man and Musk's lack of diplomacy skills could well sink our Right wing Conservative dream of a better leader up here. But on the bright side no matter what, less Teslas are being sold world wide. That's what happens when he jumps into politics where he has zero skills and alienates his customer base.
Trump is a genius

Moving votes from the Conservatives to the Liberals is almost better than tariffs.

Canada will have more years of idiots running the country. Canada will be destroyed from within.

EV battery swap has never worked.

Just consider the financial risk of renting an item worth $10,000. The damage which can be done when you are not watching. Renters are not willing to pay the price you have to receive to break even.
I knew that post would get a reaction! :ROFLMAO: They claim they have swapped batteries over 50 million times though, and that was in August of last year.

NIO eclipses 50 million battery swaps, providing evidence that drivers prefer the charge method

NIO’s industry-leading battery swap technology is continuing to gain prowess as the Chinese EV company hits another milestone. Yesterday evening, NIO hit 50 million cumulative battery swaps, providing evidence that the EV charging method is not only viable but also preferred by many drivers.

NIO ($NIO) continues to show the world EV why it is one of the leading EV technology brands in China. In addition to delivering a lineup of some of the more impressive electric vehicles on the planet, the company has developed and launched multiple adjacent technologies in the market including mobile phones and battery swaps.

Just as many lease cars, while many others can't imagine ever doing that... different strokes for different folks. There is definitely some sector of the market that is more interest in just getting back on the road, than worrying about cost, or whether the battery they're accepting has flaws or damage their original did not.

The only question is really whether that sector is large and active enough to make a viable business, as there needs to be a certain density of battery swap stations to make this a workable solution for intended applications.

It's interesting to me but I don't think the model will win in the end. Reading further into the article there is a comment:

There are few reasons that NIO battery swaps work in China, firstly they are free for most NIO owners (NIO cars are premium priced), secondly many NIO owners lease the batteries instead of owning it, third it provide options to use different size of batteries when necessary (you can get a bigger one for a month when you are doing long trip during summer).

It's a good technology, but NIO still need to standardize it and work with other brands to scale it to more cars, otherwise it's money losing.

Your hardness of heart is noted. It seems it is a trend these days. But since you want to continue on a political basis. I will too. I realize you are a former Canadian who many years ago struck out to make your fortune in the USA and that's fine.......however your vitriol to cut down anything Canadian, is obviously a inner demon to validate your choices in life. Meanwhile I am not too worried about the 99 % of us Canadians that in revived unity now will overcome the alienation and severe mistreating your Comrade Trump is placing on Canada Mexico and Europe. We are already banding together in trade talks to develop replacement markets between us . Example ....Already defense contracts for the 66 American F35 planes we were to buy are being reconsider to just the mandatory 16 the contract states and looking at buying the rest of the 50 jets from Europe . Our grocery stores across the continent have pivoted to Canadian and " anything but USA" sources easily. Tourist ( snowbirds for example ) are massively switching from Florida or Arizona....to Mexico, Cuba and Europe. And this " anything but USA" is all the fault of Comrade Trump, and the self imploding of your markets and the coming recession will be at his feet. It will take years for your aluminum and steel smelters to come online, years for car manufacturing to adjust to any tarrif world he clings to, years for your farmers to adjust to labour needs and impacts, ....and years ( maybe even a generation) for your former customer allies to pivot back to your products. Ideally your 50% of red voters will realize their leader is a tyrant mistake, with zero economic skills and your midterms will flush out some of the bad decisions. But meanwhile the world will move on much quicker than you expect, with much less need for the USA....and that's the way you wanted it. You can put away your guns in Europe you can capitulate to Putin, you can live in a caccoon of tarrifs and a 1920s economic plan for success, while the rest of us find success with 2025 economic plans.

You are living in a dream world. Castro's love child is destroying the Canadian culture and the time of Canada ripping off the U.S. with tarriffs is no more.

Canada needs the US than vice versa. Governor Mark Carney might as well embrace being the future 51st state of the U.S.

All the while being very careful not to specify the cost or price of a battery swap... in China where economics are what the government says they are.
