Least reliable new vehicles, according to JD Power, as reported by US News:
  • 2024 Volvo XC90 - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 70/100
  • 2024 Tesla Model Y - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 70/100
  • 2024 Mazda CX-50 - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 70/100
  • 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 69/100
  • 2024 Toyota bZ4X - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 64/10
  • 2024 Polestar 2 - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 64/100
  • 2024 Toyota Supra - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 63/100
  • 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 63/100
  • 2024 Cadillac Lyriq - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 60/10
  • 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 - J.D. Power Reliability Score: 54/100
But Jeep does earn a very negative rating for other quality measures and recall counts... just not "reliability", by whatever measure JD Power is using.

Seems like anyone driving a model Y shouldn't be picking on Jeep, at least based on this list, although we could debate the validity and criteria used.

This list is a big turd from a turd car review company. It's a hit piece composed mostly of EV's.

Some readers may be surprised to see a Tesla on a list of unreliable cars; however, the NHTSA records one recall for the Model Y for an incorrect font size used on some warning lights. It's covered by a basic four-year/50,000-mile warranty from the original date of purchase. The drive unit and lithium-ion battery feature an eight-year/120,000-mile warranty.

We dinged the Model Y for its inconsistent build quality, lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and complicated infotainment system.

JD powers is about as accurate as Biden's promises. Nothing more than an EV hit piece that I'm betting is counting the over the air updates Tesla performs regularly as "recalls".

Based on mechanics review of vehicles this list is a bit more accurate except for not including Korean krap.

10 least dependable cars 2024

I would say almost every EV brand would be more reliable than most ICE just for the fact of having much less moving parts.

Sorry that you feel so inferior to EV owners.

One of the many mechanic youtube videos I watch is "Car Wizard". His list of brands with these specific engines NOT to buy are:
  1. Ford 5.4 V8. Oil passages get plugged and there is no fixing it.
  2. Nissan CVT Transmission. They require fluid and filter changes to the book. Otherwise they fail.
  3. GM Ecotec turbo engines. Turbocharger problems. He says its so bad that remanufactured engine lead time is till 2024......
  4. GM 3.6 V6. Cam chains stretch and fail grenading engines.
  5. Chrysler 3.6 V6. The heads crack.
  6. Recent Nissan and Infinity V8's. Catalytic converters fail and get sucked into engines. Also according to him, they all get 12 MPG.
If you are going to buy an economical ICE, buy Toyota, Honda, or Mazda.
If money is no issue go with Lexus.
Trucks? My 6.7L Ford diesel has been really good at 180K miles and an emissions weight loss performed 5 yrs ago.

The Tesla Y is the best car on the planet.

Not when it is really cold.
What I said… up to initial thermostat opening.
If driving is so cold that that never occurs then it’s so cold outside that there would be extra energy burden on an EV also

As soon as you don't like the data, attack the source?

I don't know the Y, never been in one, but I have a few friends and family members with P100D, P90D, and 3 models. One close cousin bought their 3 in 2017, despite the closest service center being some distance from their house, on the expectation that "it should never need service".

Let's just say, he has racked up a whole lot of miles and vacation days, spent at the Tesla service center, for various recalls, updates, and build error corrections. He still loves the car, it really is a nice car, but he hates the company. I also see Tesla owners posting about various build issues on their own car, in YouTube and Instagram.

So, when Tesla lands on the least reliable list, it doesn't feel like a big surprise. As a newer company with newer tech and models, I'd be almost surprised if they didn't land somewhere on the list. Likewise for other EV's, of course they're going to have more bugs than legacy models based on powerplants with billions of accumulated miles.

The article (lifted from JD Power) says nothing about the criteria for being a trouble item scored against the vehicle.

"Window won't roll up" is one severity.
"How do I roll the window up?" is another.

Dealers get a lot of the "how do I roll the window up" issues from customers of EVs.
