Ever buy a toaster?

If you can'f find it, may I suggest you make it. One of the best thingsI ever got (from my VISA points) was a vaccume carafe coffee maker. No more burned coffee or good to the last drop with a fly in it!

It will never be as good as the "good 'ol days". We were given a two slice Kenmore toaster for our wedding in 1965. We still have/use that toaster and it works great.

Our $19.99 2 slice toaster from Bed, Bath and Beyond is only a little over 4 years old, but is the best one I've ever used. It has the wide openings that will accommodate "Texas toast" (thick stuff) and has settings for "Bagel", "Reheat", and "Defrost" as well as a dial for toasting time. I've never turned that dial more than halfway because I do believe it could overheat a piece of bread enough to possibly start a fire.

Wonder how much that toaster would cost if made in an American factory. If it was made in Canada, it wouldn't work for starters.

I've got a basic 4 bay Sunbeam that I got at Walmart 13 or 14 years ago, been a real good toaster. I had to take it apart and clean the hold coil on one side as it wouldn't stay down, but that's what I would consider routine maintenance. It only sees dry bread, as gooey stuff is the number one killer of toasters. I have a toaster oven that I use a lot, it gets the cheese sammiches and other melty stuff. Being a breakfast for dinner type, toast is a regular fare here.

I remember my parents used to get small appliances using "green stamps" in the mid 60s when we lived in New Jersey.

I have two percolators; one electric, the other a stove top that I use when hunting. Sometimes though it's nice to stop and get another cup. All that I want is coffee, save the Starbucks and all of the other additives for somebody else. Yesterday I went to the (in)convenience store where they just installed these new, fancy machines which will grind the coffee and brew it while you watch. My palate just isn't sensitive enough to appreciate it... all that coffee needs to be is black and hot.
