When I started on the police department in 1964, the department had some of the 45 caliber Thompson submachine guns. But we only got to fire a 3 round burst on the range when I was in the academy. I never knew of one being used away from the range, or even taken away from the range.

One of our Sheriff's Departments had several of the old Reising Machine Guns; no one knew how to even use them. Someone thought they were a good idea at some point.

I "think" only special military units now are allowed anything other than the ones with three round bursts; just a waste of ammo.

A friend of mine owns an M60 and when the law passed prohibiting non Law Enforcement/Military production, the price on machine guns more than tripled. He paid about $2500 and I think it is worth close to $10000 now or so someone told me.

My nephew goes to an annual machine gun shoot over at Knob Creek somewhere over in Kentucky where you can rent them.

I have never fired one though I kind of wish I had when my son had one.

I got my first .22 rifle when I was 10 or 11 years old; single shot bolt action Remington. I killed quite a few rabbits, squirrels, and even a few birds to eat. But I sure was happy when I was able to get enough money together to trade up to semi-auto .22 rifle. Now I don't think I got a bit more game, but I sure used up a lot more ammo.

I think, in most cases, the same situation would apply for most folks with a full auto.:)

Without reading all the posts...and I'm sure this has been said more than once, but....

I'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

More than Likely, it is an UZI from isreal. In the real world there are a few people whom own one legally here? I do not..Have to guess, 9mm or .45 in most models, but would not want to be in his way?

mac 10/11/12 or variant is even smaller, and have a colapsable stock. choice of .380/9mm/.45acp

much smaller than an uzi...

In a non military application, anything full auto is just a lawsuit in the making.

My son helped train a local SWAT team when they transitioned to full auto M4s and they scared him to death.

The paperwork is expensive and the cost is out of sight on those thing too.

That's a funny response.

class 3 guns aren't any more a lawsuit in progress than any other firearm.

people that are scared of guns shouldn't be around them.

the paperwork is not expensive.. unless you consider 200$ a deal killer. The cost on class 3's has been climbing steadily for a while.. but entry level guns are still quite affordable.. easilly under a couple G's . With mid grade guns costing a few G's.. and from there, depending on the weapon, shy's the limit, based on what type of arm you want.

I'd like to point out that if you look at crime statistics with class 3 weapons dating to when registration started and the NFA papered those guns way way back.. the incedents of unlawfull us is quite low.. single digits. and if you look at those couple of incedents of lawfully owned guns, misused, you will see that the owner of 1 of those was a LEO :)

Papered gun owners are among the most law abiding citizens period.. proof verifiable... look it up..

to say otherwise is a scare tactic, or myth...

Same here, but mine was a Springfield with peep sights and even as cheap as ammo was then, it was expensive to us, so we made the shots count. My first "repeater" was a Marline Golden Mountie that I still have though I don't use it much; same experience with ammo as you.

I have had several semi-auto .22s and now have a Ruger 10/22 with Hogue stock and Voltquartsen trigger. I have a Leupold scope to put on it, but it is just for fun as we have too many neighbors to hunt with a .22 anymore.

that is incorrect.

Citizens can own full auto weapons, provided they live in a state that allows it.

The H & R Reising model 50 sub machineguns are nice tools.

As to no one knowing how to use them? that's completely sad.

They have a cocking piece that you use your thumb to actuate.. it's located on the underside of the forewood. You can get the dimpled single stack 10 rnd mags, dual stack 20's and long dual stack 30's

It's a quite fun weapon to shoot, has selectable auto and semi auto operation.

There is a paratrooper version available that is slightly more valuable than the fixed stock unit.

Operational 'feel' and fire rate is about like that of a thompson.. but with less jambs :)

The thing that sours me is.....that if a patrol car got hit with a bullet the cops wudda had 100 department members scouring the area in short order. In my case....they sent someone out the NEXT DAY!! :confused2: Nobody was hurt.....just cost me a window......and I'm pretty sure it was either kids or a badly timed shot by another with a 22? (it was near a wooded ravine).

I knew our window was hit by a bullet within a few seconds (my wife's head was inches from the impact area - good thing it was not a high-caliber round) and started to stop after being hit. Upon realizing it was a bullet hit.....I got the **** out of there....and called law enforcement. Big whoop calling them.

Well as a Deputy my cruiser was shot by a rifle a few years ago and we didnt call out 100 other cops, 5 of us looked for the punk but never found him:mad:

Sorry your PD didnt respond!

While I have no idea what they have now, When I was in the GCSD I was told we had a nice Thompson .45 subgun in the safe, I never saw it and as far as I know no-one trained with it. I have fired quite a few submachine guns squad automatic weapons and 1 tripod mounted machine gun (Browning 1919) but it has all been as a civilian:) The most interesting gun I fired while at the Sheriffs office was my own Colt .45 auto. Most of the guys had .357 wheelguns. I suspect the cars probably have 5.56 rifles in them now though.

Assault shotguns, usually, in most patrol cars if they carry a long gun.
