Ever use your tractor for revenge?

UnAmerican is a polite way to put it. My neighborhood has the word 'Farms' in the name, and I've been nagged about storing my bush-hog, rear blade and PHD when I owned one out in plain view. Heaven forbid one uses small ag style equipment to maintain and improve a small acreage property. I was forced to construct a ~400 square foot corral for Bambi's toys to screen them from view.
People who dont like what they see should getalife instead of fixating. Iv always told them to just not look. ;)

In my neighborhood we don't have an HOA, but we do have a covanent. This is just a set of rules about what can and cannot be constructed or what activities are allowed. It is a large acreage, (5-10) acre subdivision, outside of the city limits and for the most part, everyone gets along. We have one lady though, who moved in a couple years ago that is trying to start an HOA. She has taken it upon herself to "impose" dues, and chastise those who do not participate. She has been to my door stating "You should take a little more pride in your neighborhood". To which I reply "You should get a hobby!"

I have been in this house for 18 years, and about 10 years ago was the Neighborhood Watch Coordinator(aka, person responsible for EVERYTHING BAD). I would get calls at all hours of the night from people "reporting" suspicious behavior or dogs barking. I tried for several years to get involvement from others, but gave up. I never pushed it on anyone, and had a few that were very helpful, but most just insisted the I be "in charge" and handle everything. It did stop some minor vandalism from the local kids, (actually I think they just grew up and moved out) but now, all that is left are the signs. Most houses are far enough apart, that disputes are few and the majority of the homeowners have been here for 10+ years. It's the "new" neighbors that want to impose their will.

Ya know I did not do it as revenge.. But everyone's actions or attitudes usually have a consequence sooner or later...

When I was building my house a neighbor's lot had access to a better road to bring materials in, and she gave my builder permission to use it.

One of the neighbors on that road made such a stink that we could not.
Well, this cost us almost 2 months of delays. The stink was that the large concrete and delivery trucks would damage the road.
We volunteered to pay to fix up $2000 of damage. Knowing that it would be less than that of any damage that could happen... No go...

Well as we worked to make up that 2 months, often myself and others worked at late as midnight 6 days week. When we got to backfill around the house, I setup 3 of those dual 500 watt halogen work lights on different parts of the lot. Of course, unbeknowst to me, one of them shined into his bedroom. (a third party said they hear a complaint, but I never did). Personally, he is almost 1000 feet away....

For the backfill work on 2 nights I worked till Midnight.. (Friday and Sat) and since I live in an area where only he and I live within 2000 feet of the house (I don't count the seasonal owners), and it is in the county-- nothing could be said.... Often, before the brush on the adjacent lot grew up, I could see him standing out on his driveway fussing about the tractor noise.

The adjacent lot is the one with the big hole, that I was going to fill in for the nieghbor... Still tried to be a nice guy even after our access across that lot was denied.... I had a thread about it somewhere... Never did fill it in..

It got real interesting when it snowed this past February, we got a foot. That is usually a week's worth and typically we never see more than 2-4 inches at once... BUT it all came down in a day or so.... I scraped the drives going out our road, and all the way to the state road (about a mile and 1/2 counting my driveway)...

Although I never heard the whole story, but I got word that it cost him some major $$ to get his 1/2 mile drive scraped... and then even the guy that did it just gave a number high enough that he thought it would be a no...

Moral of the story-- Sooner or later, the problems and issues you cause will come back at you....

anyway.....

that's my story...

That is so true ...never fails ..what goes around comes around. Makes you wonder how folks can be so small minded. I mean..even if they are mean spirited they should know that it is a small world...LOL go figure ?

I dunno, I think you'd fit in just fine around here!

For the record, if I was told I could not fly my countries flag I'd go all the way to the Supreme Court over it!!!

Thanks JimmyJ, it's nice to know I might fit in somewhere.

I agree with you SpyderLK; but unfortunately the HOASS has TOO much power where I live to impose fines and even a lien against your property.

She has been to my door stating "You should take a little more pride in your neighborhood". To which I reply "You should get a hobby!" You're more of a gentleman than me as I would have told her something the TBN censors wouldn't allow.

It's the "new" neighbors that want to impose their will. Yep, that sums it up pretty well.[/quote]

A homeowner's association (HOA) is supposedly democratic but my experience has varied between socialism to a caste system:rolleyes:

If you live in the country there are no HOA's.

Not necessarily. We had 35 acres in CO that had an HOA. The only thing the HOA fees went for was upkeep of the PRIVATE roads and the gates. Several properties (including ours ) were on a COUNTY road outside the gates. There was no way we would have enough votes to secede so we were stuck subsidizing the others.

I believe in the old saying about digging 2 graves when it comes to revenge, however.

no votes needed.. just sue to be discluded from the HOA.

had that happen in ours.. one very particular nasty guy that is 2 dorrs down from me sued the hoa so much that they couldn't afford to defend the legal bills, and opted to let him out of the hoa...

I'm not so sure that high density developments need HOAs. My grandparents had their house in an inner suburb of Boston and lived on a street with 2 and 3 family double deckers and duplexes packed in on 10K sq ft lots (+/-) and everything was fine. Of course, the road was a town way, maintained and plowed by the town.

Nowadays, around here, lots of new developments are built with HOAs in place because it greases the skids, so to speak, on getting the development approved for building. Think of it for a minute, if you're a town board, what would you rather approve, a new development where you're going to inherit all the roads as town ways, having to plow and maintain them, as well as pick up all the trash and recycling, and maintain all the street lighting, or stipulate that the builder create a HOA, where the homeowners have to do all that stuff for themselves (but the town more or less still gets to levy and collect the same property taxes?) It's no wonder so many are built with associations now.

I live in such a place and I'm plotting my move OUT of it.
