Yes is the short answer.

Probably be able to run the full range of that machine on a 30 amp, top end might be tricky but I doubt you are running at the top end (that machine runs nice and hot at lower settings).

Long answer is why does your sub panel need to be swapped to put in a 50? Is the existing run to the sub something small?

No enough space in the box is the short answer to the long answer question.

The easiest way to say this is, use it until the breaker trips. Then you'll know.

The complicated way is to say that inrush doesn't necessarily trip the breaker. It's the rated, or effective amps that does create the issue. Just make sure you have a good breaker, with a slow trip. It won't mess up the quality of the weld. It won't hurt the unit as long as you don't abuse it or run it on undersized wiring...which should not be an issue due to several factors regarding duty cycle and wire size.

What model would you suggest for a DIY who has little tig knowledge. An AC/DC tig, but not too complicated. I will use primarily for aluminium tig welding and some stick weld. Would the powertig 185 be a suitable choice? So far very satisfied with my powerplasma 60s, so adding another Everlast product doesn't bother me.

Karl,
I would say that it would be up to how it will be used, and how you think you might use it in the future, not just now. There are options that would allow you to grow as your skills and needs increase (and they will). The 185 is good for people who know they won't ever be doing more than thin, basic stuff.

I'd probably suggest at least the 200DV. I'd suggest the 210EXT, not because it is simple but because you probably wouldn't be intimidated by it as it is fairly intuitive (as I've been told by many customers) and it will grow with you.
